“…This study revealed an association of energy drink to a QT shortening and increase in a HR percent augmentation, which is consistent with a growing concern of the suspected arrhythmogenic effect of these beverages, which is supported by some case reports of energy drink-related congenital long QT syndrome [57], cardiac arrest [58,59], QTc interval prolongation [60], Brugada syndrome [61] and atrial fibrillation [62,63]. Caffeine is one of the main components that increases QT variability during sleep, which suggests that excessive caffeine intake results in adverse cardiovascular reactions in vulnerable subjects [64].…”

“…Consumption of EDs in healthy people alters repolarization of the cardiac cycle possibly predisposing them to physiological responses that can lead to arrhythmias and other abnormal cardiac responses [8]. Even inherited cardiac channelopathies such as long QT and Brugada syndrome can be unmasked and provoked in a patient by the EDs that he consumed [6,9]. Myocardial ischemia due to either coronary spasm or thrombosis may also be caused by excessive EDs consumption.…”

“…In another case reported by Goldfarb et al (11) after a cardioversion applied in the emergency service due to ventricular fibrillation, the patient told that he smoked marijuana and consumed ED rich in caffeine but no pathology was detected in the cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, coronary angiography and EPS. Rutledge et al (12) reported a young adult male who was brought to the emergency service because of ventricular fibrillation after consuming ED with alcohol. Following the resuscitation, ECG revealed type 1 Brugada (12).…”

“…Rutledge et al (12) reported a young adult male who was brought to the emergency service because of ventricular fibrillation after consuming ED with alcohol. Following the resuscitation, ECG revealed type 1 Brugada (12). In our case, although the patient was not diagnosed for cardiac pathology in his examination made in the outpatient clinic two weeks ago, angina and tachycardia attacks started after consumption of ED with high caffeine level.…”
