Because synthetic antidiabetic medications have undesirable side effects and are expensive, various studies on medicinal plants with hypoglycemic properties have continued looking for alternative ways to prevent and manage type 2 diabetes (T2D) that may be more efficient, cost-effective and secure. Efficient bioactive substances such as flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, terpenoids, anthraquinones, saponins, cardiac glycosides, and steroids were discovered in Mangifera indica leaves (MIL). The study's goal was to evaluate the MIL's therapeutic potential in diabetic rats treated with streptozotocin (STZ). In the experiment, forty male adult albino rats were employed. The animals were separated into four groups, each with ten rats, and evaluated as follows: group 1 (healthy control, HC); group 2 (untreated diabetic, UD); group 3 (mango treated diabetic, MTD); and group 4 (mango treated, MT). After 8 weeks of MIL extract administration, blood samples were taken to assess several biochemical and hematological markers. The treatment of MIL extract in diabetic rats resulted in significant reductions in blood glucose, glycated hemoglobin (HbA-1c), and amylase enzyme activity. The levels of insulin, vitamin C, and vitamin E were significantly increased with MIL extract treatment. Further, the extract showed significant antihyperlipidemic activity and renoprotective and hepatoprotective effects in diabetic rats. These findings suggested a beneficial effect of MIL extract in the treatment of T2D associated with hyperlipidemia, and liver and kidney complications.

Vanderbylia robiniophila (Murrill) B.K. (Huaier) is a kind of higher fungal fruiting body that is parasitic on the trunk of Sophora japonica and Robinia pseudoacacia L.. As a traditional Chinese medicine with a history of more than 1,600 years, Huaier has attracted wide attention for its excellent anticancer activity. A systematic study on the metabolome differences between natural Huaier and artificial cultured Huaier was conducted using liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry in this study. Principal component analysis and orthogonal projection on latent structure‐discriminant analysis results showed that cultured Huaier evidently separated and individually separated from natural Huaier, indicating metabolome differences between natural and cultured Huaier. Hierarchical clustering analysis was further performed to cluster the differential metabolites and samples based on their metabolic similarity. The higher contents of amino acids, alkaloids and terpenoids in natural Huaier make it an excellent choice as a traditional Chinese medicine for anticancer or nutritional supplementation. The results of the Bel‐7,402 and A549 cell cytotoxicity tests showed that the anticancer activity of natural Huaier was better than that of cultured Huaier. This may be due to the difference in chemical composition, which makes the anticancer activities of natural and cultured Huaier different.

Isopulegol (ISO) is an alcoholic monoterpene widely found in different plant species, such as Melissa officinalis, and has already been reported to have a number of pharmacological properties. Like other terpenes, ISO is a highly volatile compound that is slightly soluble in water, so its inclusion into cyclodextrins (CDs) is an interesting approach to increase its solubility and bioavailability. Thus, our aim was to evaluate the antiedematogenic and anti-inflammatory activity of isopulegol and a β-cyclodextrin–isopulegol inclusion complex (ISO/β-CD) in rodent models. For the anti-inflammatory activity evaluation, antiedematogenic plethysmometry and acute (peritonitis and pleurisy), as well as chronic (cotton pellet-induced granuloma) anti-inflammatory models, were used. The docking procedure is used to evaluate, analyze, and predict their binding mode of interaction with H1 and Cox-2 receptors. The animals (n = 6) were divided into groups: ISO and ISO/β-CD, negative control (saline), and positive control (indomethacin and promethazine). ISO and ISO/β-CD were able to reduce acute inflammatory activity by decreasing albumin extravasation, leukocyte migration, and MPO concentration, and reducing exudate levels of IL-1β and TNF-α. ISO and ISO/β-CD significantly inhibited edematogenic activity in carrageenan- and dextran-induced paw edema. Moreover, both significantly reduced chronic inflammatory processes, given the lower weight and protein concentration of granulomas in the foreign body granulomatous inflammation model. The results suggest that the inclusion of ISO in β-cyclodextrins improves its pharmacological properties, with the histamine and prostaglandin pathways as probable mechanisms of inhibition, and also reinforces the anti-inflammatory profile of this terpene.
