Six nepoviruses are transmitted by five Longidorus and three Xiphinema species in Europe. The virus and vector associations are: L. apulus and L. fasciatus with artichoke Italian latent nepovirus, L. attenuatus and L. elongatus with tomato black ring nepovirus, L. elongatus and L. macrosoma with raspberry ringspot nepovirus, X. diversicaudatum with arabis mosaic and strawberry latent ringspot nepoviruses and X. index and X. italiae with grapevine fanleaf nepovirus. The distributions of the viruses and their vectors in Europe and the Mediterranean basin are described. The following points are commented: presence of non‐indigenous nematode‐transmitted nepoviruses in Europe; occurrence of vector nematodes in European countries in the absence of their associated nepoviruses; the possible vectors of serologically distinct strains of grapevine fanleaf nepovirus.

EinleitungVon den in Europa verbreiteten nematodenubertragenen Viren mit polyedrischer Partikelgestalt, den sogenannten NEPO-Viren (CADMAN 1963), sind das Arabismosaik-Virus (arabis mosaic virus) und das Tomatenschwarzring-Virus (tomato black ring virus) an ziemlidi zahlreichen Zier-, Forst-und Wildgeholzen nachgewiesen worden (ScH^^ELZER 1967 b). Ober das erst 1964 durch LISTER beschriebene ,,Latente Erdbeerringflecken-Virus" (LERV, strawberry latent ringspot virus) waren dagegen bisher nur geringe entsprechende Kenntnisse vorhanden, da es ledigUch an Sambucus nigra L. (LISTER 1964) und an einigen Kulturvarietaten von Rosa (CAMMACK 1966, HARRISON 1967 festgestellt worden war. In eigenen Untersuchungen, die zum Teil schon vor der Erstbesdireibung dieses Virus durdigefuhrt wurden, konnte es aus drei weiteren, vollig voneinander verschiedenen Gehblzen isoliert werden. Ober die bei der Charakterisierung und Identifizierung der drei LERV-Herkiinfte gewonnenen Resultate soil die vorliegende Arbeit zusammenfassend berichten.
