Isolation and Screening for Multi-trait Plant Growth Promoting Actinobacteria From Organic Sugarcane Rhizosphere

Abstract: Rhizospheric actinobacteria associated to organic cultivation are essential in nutrient cycling and plant growth promotion. The aim of thi s study was to isolate and select in vitro actinobacteria displaying multiple plant growth promoting traits associated with the rhizosphere of sugarcane undergoing organic management. The isolates were evaluated regarding their ability to produce plant growth promoting traits. Of the 21 isolates, 57% produced at least one of the evaluated traits. Isolates ABC92 and ABC32 pr… Show more

“…MNC-3 with 8.30 µg/mL and 6.70 µg/mL, respectively. These results agree with those reported by Anwar et al [76] and Rodrigues et al [31]. Several Streptomyces species, such as Streptomyces olivaceoviridis, Streptomyces rimosus, Streptomyces rochei, Streptomyces griseoviridis, and Streptomyces lydi also have the ability to produce IAA and promote plant growth [80][81][82].…”

“…The Salkowski's reagent (10 mM FeCl 3 , 35% perchloric acid) and 2 drops of phosphoric acid were added to 1 mL of the bacterial supernatant. The test solution was subsequently incubated for 30 min in the dark before its absorbance was measured at 530 nm [31]. Sterile LB medium served as a blank.…”

“…After 30 min of incubation, the appearance of the color pink was an indicator of a positive production of IAA. The absorbance was read at 530 nm [32]. The level of IAA production was calculated based on the calibration curve of IAA and the results were expressed as µg of IAA per mL of the extract.…”

“…In contrast, the lowest relative abundance of Actinobacteria was in FL, where SOC was the highest. Actinobacteria decreased mineralization rates in some soils, which enhanced SOC accumulation [ 55 , 56 , 57 ]. Moreover, as Acidobacteria prefer low-nutrient soils, their presence indicates soil degradation [ 58 , 59 ].…”
