Baldellia ranunculoides (L.) Parl. (Alismataceae) is a taxonomically problematic aquatic plant with an historically illdefined distribution and global conservation status. This paper finds morphological, ecological and molecular evidence for two distinct taxa, probably best described as subspecies: (1) B. ranunculoides subsp. ranunculoides and (2) B. ranunculoides subsp. repens and provides detailed distribution data on their overlapping range, in different habitats, across the cool, high rainfall areas of western Europe and west Mediterranean. The two subspecies are amongst the relatively large number of threatened European and north Africa aquatic plants and this paper provides a systematic review of their relative conservation pressures and management needs, with particular emphasis on the status of both taxa in central Europe. Other observations indicate probable evolutionary relationships within B. ranunculoides s.l. and its associated taxa and the review points out where these and other research topics could potentially be pursued.

The Atlantic elements in the Swiss flora: distribution, diversity, and conservation status

The purpose of this study was to examine the composition, distribution, ecology, and conservation status of the Atlantic elements of the Swiss flora. About 195 Atlantic and 80 Mediterranean-Atlantic vascular plant species of the European flora have been used as the basis for our analysis. The complete list of 3,143 taxa has been used as the reference for the Swiss flora. The distributions of the species are illustrated in coincidence maps based on the computer database of the Data Centre of the Swiss Flora in Geneva, Switzerland. Our study demonstrates clearly that the Atlantic flora of Europe requires a new biogeographical appraisal. The Swiss flora comprises 66 Atlantic and MediterraneanAtlantic taxa, which are taxonomically and ecologically highly diverse. Switzerland contains 44% of all European Sub-Atlantic plants. This confirms the Sub-Atlantic geographical position of Switzerland. Only one Eu-Atlantic species growing in Switzerland, Vicia orobus, can be classified as native with certainty. This species is critically endangered and merits the highest conservation priority. Although a very alpine country, Switzerland has a relatively large number of Mediterranean-Atlantic species. The Atlantic and Mediterranean-Atlantic plants are a very threatened group in Switzerland, with wetland plants the most imperilled ecological group.

The ground at a fundamental regulatory environmental function of water flows or on biological activity. Under anthropogenic influence and change of use changes, mineralogical, physico-chemical and biological soil constituents are processed on the basis of own sensitivity an each type of pedogenesis, altering sometimes sustainably agronomic and environmental functions and in particular the resource in water [1]. The present study shows the current state endured the steppe area in the municipality of Maamora Wilaya of Saïda. The diagnosis made sheds light on a situation that leaves to be desired and was under the influence of spectrum degradation whose origin is anthropogenic. Indeed, ploughing extends and the courses are systematically cleared, thus promoting the extension of the phenomenon of desertification. The operating system Nomad trained overloading of pastures and their degradation. Before this alarming situation and the fragility of the steppe ecosystem supports a new vision is needed and will have to rely on a rigorous planning and management thus projecting from a sustainability perspective. Our work has focused on the assessment of the (pastoral) anthropogenic impact at various levels of pressure on vegetation and some physico-chemical characteristics of soils. The results showed that a very high anthropozoogenic pressure could be irreversible for the edaphic characteristics of soils and vegetal groups had no time to recover following pressures exerted on them and the particular climatic conditions including lack of water that prevails in these semi-arid.
