Ionic conductivity of hybrid films based on polyacrylonitrile and their battery application

Abstract: SynopsisThe alternate current (AC) and direct current (DC) ionic conductivity of hybrid films composed of polyacrylonitrile (PAN), lithium perchlorate (LiC104). and a plasticizer was studied. Three kinds of the plasticizer [ethylene carbonate (EC), propylene carbonate (PC), NJV-dimethylformamide (DMF)] were used. Suitability of these hybrid films for lithium battery was investigated. The AC conductivity, which represents bulk ionic conductivity, was dependent on the component and the composition of the hybrid … Show more

“…Watanabe et al demonstrated the plasticization of PAN with plasticizers EC and PC and the complexation with LiClO 4[106,107]. Improvement of ionic conductivity in PAN-based PEs with EC, PC and LiClO 4 was reported by Abraham and Alamgir[104].…”

“…After being dried under vacuum at 508C for 48 h, the resultant films were transferred to a glove box. They were immersed in the calculated organic liquid electrolyte (DMC : DEC : EC ¼ 1 : 1 : 1 (w/w) LiPF 6 1 mol/L, Guotai-Huarong Chemical) to activate.…”

“…This category of GPE is characterized by a higher ambient ionic conductivity but poorer mechanical property, and it is usually obtained by incorporating a larger quantity of liquid plasticizer and/or solvent(s) to a polymer matrix that is capable of forming a stable gel. 4 To date, several types of GPEs have been developed and characterized, such as those based on poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO), 5 poly(acrylonitrile) (PAN), 6,7 poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), 8,9 poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC), 10 and poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVdF). 11,12 The use of PMMA as a GPE was previously reported by Iijima et al 8 and Bohnke et al 9 The GPE exhibit homogeneous and transparent, and the conductivity reached the order of 10 À3 S cm…”

“…The polymer network provides mechanical integrity while the solvent gives the diffusive properties of a liquid. Systems that have been investigated in this context are for example poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO), poly(acrylonitrile) (PAN), poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), and poly(vinylidene fluoride‐hexafluoro propylene) (PVdF/HFP) based GPEs. PVdF‐HFP systems can reach σ of 10 −2 S cm −1 , while PEO systems can reach σ of around 10 −4 S cm −1 .…”
