The Impact of Foreign Venture Capital Intervention on Venture Capital Innovation of Startup Entrepreneurs Using Propensity Score Matching Model

The research expects to give full play to the role of venture capital in corporate innovation and enhance the development capability of enterprises. Based on Propensity Score Matching (PSM) model, the characteristics of venture capital and startup enterprises are analyzed, and the innovation of venture capital is discussed. Next, the PSM model is used to analyze the innovation of venture capital intervention in enterprises from risk probability intervention, probability evaluation, matching equilibrium validity test, matching results analysis, different venture capital, and different background risks. The results show that the difference of standardized mean is close to 0, which accords with the equilibrium test. The significant impact of venture capital intervention on the Number of Invention Patent Applications (NIPA) and Number of Utility Model Patent Applications (NUMPA) is 0.1 and 0.01, respectively. Venture capital intervention has a significantly positive impact on NIPA and NUMPA but has no significant positive impact on Number of Design Patent Applications (NDPA). The impact of joint venture capital intervention on the NIPA, NUMPA, and NDPA is 0.0874, 0.0635, and 0.1213, respectively. Hence, the intervention of joint venture capital can greatly promote the increase of Number of Patent Applications (NPA), especially, NIPA, and NUMPA. Compared with private venture capital, joint venture capital plays a greater role in promoting the growth of NPA and NIPA. Compared with private venture capital and foreign venture capital, national venture capital has a stronger innovation orientation and a longer investment cycle, which can greatly improve innovation performance, such as NIPA, while private venture capital and foreign venture capital have a less significant impact on enterprise innovation performance. The results demonstrate that the foreign capital sharing assessment based on the PSM model can be a good predictor of the performance of startups. It is hoped that the research results can provide a reference for the development of startups.

Transfer of knowledge and technology is the critical aspect to increasing the performance of vanilla agribusiness. Various technologies to accelerate the increasing productivity and quality of vanilla have been introduced. However, adoption at the smallholder level is still not optimal. This study aims to formulate an extension service system to accelerate technology adoption at the farmer level. The analytical method used is MICMAC. Extension activities in household approach, farm school, and farm demonstration or demonstration plot greatly influence other agribusiness components. On the other hand, the availability of other agribusiness components affects extension activities. Extension for vanilla smallholders tends to be dominated by individuals with technical aspects as the focus of the subject matter. However, behavioural and institutional elements are not yet determinants of the sustainability of the learning process. An extension service system is an integrated approach that encourages the transfer of knowledge, information, and technology as a continuous learning process. Integrated extension service system for vanilla agribusiness development based on knowledge support service. It is supported by agribusiness support service, policy, market opportunities, and industry organization. Knowledge support service encourages the establishment of individual and smallholder organization capacity development.

The recent progression of vanilla production in Indonesia has been relatively slow, although vanilla prices were relatively high. The main factors inhibiting the progress are the threat of theft of vanilla fruits and incidents of vanilla stem rot disease, especially in West Java. Three cultivation systems are found in Indonesia: conventional, shade house, and greenhouse cultivation. The last two systems were intended to address both threats. This study analyzed the sustainability ranking of the three vanilla cultivation systems. Qualitative research was conducted to find the facts on how farmers decide to apply the cultivation systems, particularly in addressing the threats to achieving sustainability. Based on the facts of the vanilla cultivation conducted by farmers, the experts analyzed to sort the most sustainable cultivation from technical, economic, and environmental aspects. The data was obtained from experienced vanilla farmers and cultivation and economic experts through in-depth interviews and direct observation of farmers’ plantations. The result showed that the use of shade houses is the most sustainable vanilla cultivation because it can provide higher productivity and quality, is relatively safe from the threats of microenvironment settings, is more affordable, and is easier to maintain and control the disease.
