Investigation of the self‐imaging position of a singlemode‐multimode‐singlemode optical fiber structure

Abstract: In this paper, a theoretical and experimental investigation of the multimode interference induced self‐imaging phenomenon in a singlemode‐multimode‐singlemode (SMS) fiber structure is described. The simulated transmission spectra based on guided modal propagation analysis and beam propagation method are presented and compared with experimental obtained results. The temperature dependence of the self‐imaging position of the SMS fiber structure is also investigated. These investigations provide excellent opportu… Show more

“…The large insertion loss of the sample is mainly due to the mismatch of the mode fields and numerical apertures between the HCCW and SMFs. Actually, similar results can be found in many previously reported works [20][21][22][23]. A peak located at 1548.60 nm can be clearly seen in curve C of Figure 3, which corresponds to the self-imaging wavelength of the device.…”

“…In a previous work [ 19 ], a guided-mode propagation analysis (MPA) was adopted to comprehensively investigate an SMS fiber structure. Furthermore, a comparison of the calculated self-imaging positions of an SMS fiber structure employing MPA and beam propagation method (BPM) was presented [ 22 ].…”
