Investigation of grid-connected photovoltaic generation system applied for Urban Rail Transit energy-savings

Abstract: In the paper, the feasibility and application modes of Photovoltaic (PV) generation system were studied in Urban Rail Transit (URT). Firstly, the paper estimates the capacity of PV cells installation, and gets the results that PV generation system applied in the URT energy-savings is feasible by studying a typical elevated line of Shanghai URT. And then, in view of the particularity of URT power system and its loads, AC gridconnected mode and DC grid-connected mode are presented, and the grid-connected topolog… Show more

“…Another example of LV/MV application characterized by dynamic moving loads is the wide set of railways, metros, tramways and trolley buses, all supplied from a catenary (or third rail) system fed by rectifier substations [7], [8]. The line voltage is generally standardized to a set of nominal values of 600, 750, 1500 and 3000 V. These networks feature the largest extension, as they cover entire cities, regions and countries.…”

“…Sindhuja [25] proposed to use wind energy. Chong et al [26] and Shen et al [27] used solar energy to power their equipment. Wind and solar energy are popular sources of clean energy, but they are subject to weather constraints [28].…”

“…In Hayashiya et al (2012) studies the potential of using solar generation on platform roofs have been analyzed [1]. The feasibility of a fixed PV system with battery storage was studied for urban rail transit [2]. Another feasibility study was made for rail coaches with rooftop solar systems [3].…”
