In this autoetnographic study, by focusing on the mood of my employment, I will try to examine how Imanufacture consent to work as an academician at a university in the Eastern Black Sea in Turkey.While showing how my working life is shaped by the mood of the “young republican woman” imageand also how it contradicts with, this article emphasises that the mood of working life cannot beunderstood without focusing on its relation with gender ideology. By strengthening the connectionbetween emotion/affect literature and labour theories, the article suggests the mood of my working asan academician is a desire to believe the world could be different and explores this mood by focusingon the main parts of my working history: arrival to the working place, transforming it and fulfillingthe requirements of working. These titles explore not only how such a mood is constructedhistorically but also how it is reconstituted in daily life. I hope that the article, which provides adiscursive analysis about women’s paid employment by drawing on the studies on the mood, willcontribute to the debates on the relationship between mood, labour process and gender ideologies.

This article argues that political performance reveals the significance of the emotions, emotional feelings, affect and mood in relation to the censorship of democratic expression. Belarus Free Theatre performers spoke about fear as they gave personal accounts of imprisonment and undertook extreme physical action on aerial ropes, creating performances that evoked both emotionally felt responses and bodily affect. The aesthetic mood effect in these performances shifted from amusing audiences with the absurdity of political censorship to alarming them with the terror of political persecution. Antonio Damasio points out that although aspects of the emotions merge in everyday life, ideas or impressions need to be separated out from the physiology of emotional feeling in their study. While the turn to affect emphasizes convergence and, importantly, recognizes human sensitivity to nonhuman energies, an impersonal energetic field can be distinguished from the personal and the psychological. This analysis of theatrical performance reveals the ways in which it presents social ideas of the emotions and aesthetic moods, as well as elicits the affect of bodily sensation and invites the emotionally felt responses of audience members. Theatrical performance offers a space for expressing emotions in political protest.

Renato Ortiz (2004) alerta para o fato de que os Estudos Culturais no Brasil e fora dele têm características muito diferentes. Avalia que, na academia bra- sileira, sua penetração ainda hoje se faz pelas bordas. Contrariando parcial- mente este diagnóstico, o GT Cultura, Crítica e Democratização (SBS), tenta reposicionar, no campo de conhecimento, os Estudos Culturais que, de uma presença mais sutil e dispersa em variados grupos, conquista um espaço onde a sua perspectiva epistemológico-política é central para a sua identificação. Ao relacionar cultura e poder, os Estudos Culturais atraem investigações em torno das identidades, identificações e lutas por reconhecimento, da hegemonia e da con- tra-hegemonia, da crítica ao capitalismo, das vozes subalternas, das histórias silen- ciadas e das resistências, dos mass media na democratização da sociedade, do fenô- meno da polifonia e da interculturalidade, das tensões entre modernidade e tradição, da tradução, do hibridismo e do devir que promovem as modernidades entrelaçadas.
