Healthcare providers in the United States often view the lifestyle choices made by refugees from Burma through the lenses of America's norms for healthy living. Although healthcare providers often recognize the role that language plays in the refugees' ability to communicate their healthcare needs, they often ignore the role of culture. This lack of understanding of cultural difference contributes to the marginalization of refugees in the healthcare system. Using a transformative mixed method methodology, this study employed the East Asian Acculturation Scale (EAAM) to identify participants' perceived level of acculturation within health care contexts. The researchers then engaged participants in a qualitative exploration of their lifestyle choices using a Photovoice protocol. These two methods, girded by critical and ecological theories, elucidate the participants' counter-stories that provide insight into how the refugees are negotiating culturally relevant lifestyle choices in their new American contexts.

"Behind a curtain of professional neutrality, conference interpreters dedicate themselvesto their art with the utmost passion." 1Resumo: Este artigo argumenta que, no âmbito de uma discussão multidisciplinar sobre poder e ideologia na prática da interpretação, diferentes tipos de fidelidade são construídos de acordo com influências do meio em que atuam os intérpretes, em interação com os valores que os informam no exercício de seu ofício. Neste trabalho, são abordadas questões de ética e de controle do discurso por parte do intérprete, com base em estudos de caso, colocando em perspectiva os limites de sua atividade e favorecendo o pensamento crítico sobre a profissão e os estudos acadêmicos que a têm como objeto. The past, present and future of Chinese MA theses in Interpreting Studies: A scientometric survey

This paper takes a scientometric approach to examining one of Chinese Interpreting Studies' (CIS) most productive sources of research, MA theses, with the aim of answering the following questions: How has the discipline changed over time? What fields and theories influence it? And what are its most common research themes? The study's comprehensive corpus of nearly 1,300 Chinese-language theses addresses a data-based limitation faced by earlier scholars. A range of state-of-the-art statistical techniques have made it possible to detect patterns in CIS that are difficult to tease out by human hand and eye alone. The field has grown rapidly in recent years and is now producing a steady and consistent stream of research: the majority of students in China draw inspiration from theories within Translation Studies, but no particular theories or topics have grown more popular over time. Despite this consistency, CIS remains a complex and dynamic field of academic enquiry.
