The very last wireless network technology, created to increase the speed and the connections responsiveness, the Fifth-Generation Network (5G) can transmit a great volume of data. It uses wireless broadband connections to support specific end-users and businesses services. It is specifically useful for the Internet of Vehicles (IoV), guaranteeing fast connections and security. The 5G network technology can be used to support Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communications and applications on autonomous vehicles. It can enable information exchanges between vehicles and other infrastructures and people. It can also provide a more comfortable and safer environment and accurate traffic knowledge. The traffic flow can be improved, reducing pollution and accident rates. The cellular network can be associated with V2X as a communicating base to offer enhanced road safety and autonomous driving, and also to offer the IoV connections. This survey presents the 5G technology evolution, standards, and infrastructure associated with V2X ecosystem by IoV. In other words, it presents the IoV supported by 5G V2X communications, considering its architecture, applications and also the V2X features and protocols, as well as the modes, the evaluation and the technological support in such combination. The contribution of this paper is a systematized study about the interaction among these three contents: IoV, 5G, and V2X. Eighty four works were selected to present concepts, standards and to identify the ways to overcome challenges. This survey aims to guide the development of new 5G-V2X services and technologies dedicated to vehicle communications, and also to indicate future directions. Recently, connected vehicles (CV) are becoming a promising research area leading to the concept of CV as a Service (CVaaS). With the increase of connected vehicles and an exponential growth in the field of online cab booking services, new requirements such as secure, seamless and robust information exchange among vehicles of vehicular networks are emerging. In this context, the original concept of vehicular networks is being transformed into a new concept known as connected and autonomous vehicles. Autonomous vehicular use yields a better experience and helps in reducing congestion by allowing current information to be obtained by the vehicles instantly. However, malicious users in the internet of vehicles may mislead the whole communication where intruders may compromise smart devices with the purpose of executing a malicious ploy. In order to prevent these issues, a blockchain technique is considered the best technique that provides secrecy and protection to the control system in real time conditions. In this paper, the issue of security in smart sensors of connected vehicles that can be compromised by expert intruders is addressed by proposing a blockchain framework. This study has further identified and validated the proposed mechanism based on various security criteria, such as fake requests of the user, compromise of smart devices, probabilistic authentication scenarios and alteration in stored user’s ratings. The results have been analyzed against some existing approach and validated with improved simulated results that offer 79% success rate over the above-mentioned issues.

An Acceptance Approach for Novel Technologies in Car Insurance

Background: Unlike other financial services, technology-driven changes in the insurance industry have not been a vastly explored topic in scholarly literature. Incumbent insurance companies have hitherto been holding their positions using the complexity of the product, heavy regulation, and gigantic balance sheets as paramount factors for a relatively slow digitalization and technological transformation. However, new technologies such as car telematic devices have been creating a new insurance ecosystem. The aim of this study is to assess the telematics technology acceptance for insurance purposes. Methods: The study is based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT). By interviewing 502 new car buyers, we tested the factors that affect the potential usage of telematic devices for insurance purposes. Results: The results indicate that facilitating conditions are the main predictor of telematics use. Moreover, privacy concerns related to the potential abuse of driving behavior data play an important role in technology acceptance. Conclusions: Although novel insurance technologies are mainly presented as user-driven, users (drivers and insurance buyers) are often neglected as an active party in the development of such technologies.
