Innovative decision support for IT service management

Abstract: The IT Service Management (ITSM) industry has defined processes as best practices in the widely-accepted IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL®) framework. However, there are few tools available to provide decision support to IT Service Managers who wish to improve service management processes. It is essential to assess the current capability of processes before process improvements are planned. Our research addressed the problems of the lack of transparency and the need for efficiency in ITSM process assessment. Us… Show more

“…The best practices of ITIL for IT service management are also widely discussed in the literature (Shrestha et al, 2016;Cronholm et al, 2017;Eikebrokk et al, 2017). So far, four versions of ITIL were released.…”

“…The literature regarding automatic assessment from other domains could serve as the basis for designing and implementing INAS systems architectures. For example, in the Process Assessment domain, Shrestha et al [128] propose a software-mediated process assessment approach focusing on the evaluation of IT Service Management, Barafort et al [129] propose a software artefact to support standard-based process assessment and Krivograd and Fettke [127] propose an intelligent maturity model tool for Business Process Management.…”

“…In the papers (Mallek, Daclin, and Chapurlat 2012), Computer-mediated systems supporting an assessment process Moreover, we also identified computer-mediated tools for supporting assessment and decision-making processes in other domains as summarised in Table 4. The SMPA approach (Steel et al 2016), (Shrestha, Cater-Steel, and Toleman 2016) is a standards-based process assessment method by which organisations can selfassess their processes transparently and efficiently using a decision support system. (Krivograd, Fettke, and Loos 2014) The authors in (Grambow, Oberhauser, and Reichert 2013) propose an ontologybased approach for enhancing the degree of automation in current process assessment.…”
