Some plant species allow the cutting of the apical meristem in order to assist activities of genetic improvement programs, among them is the soybean. The objective was to verify if the removal of the apical meristem of soybean plants induces any alteration in the stem anatomy, since it was verified that the removal of the apical meristem reduces the need for tutoring of the plants cultivated under greenhouse conditions. The experiment was conducted with plants of the BRSMG 752S cultivar and the treatments consisted of sections of the hypocotyl region of plants that had undergone apical meristem removal at the V2 development stage and of plants without apical meristem removal. The permanent slides were processed following the usual methodologies in plant anatomy. Descriptions and measurements of anatomical tissues were made for comparison between treatments. Plants with removal presented epidermis as a covering tissue until 20 days after the V2 development stage, while plants without removal of the apical meristem presented it until 30 days after V2. Periderm was observed only in plants with removal, and this feature was not evident in plants without removal until 30 days after V2. There was formation of secondary vascular tissues in the collections 30 days after removal (V2 stage). Thus, we conclude that the removal of the apical meristem accelerates the secondary development in hypocotyls of soybean plants grown under greenhouse conditions.

Grain productive efficiency of soybean plants under lactofen application

Adverse factors cause a decrease in the productive potential of crops. For soybean [(Glycine max (L.) Merrill], the excessive growth is a factor that results in plants with low effective efficiency. Thus, plants with an architecture that favours greater interception of solar radiation and deposition of pesticides tend to be more productive. The objective of this study is to evaluate the different application of lactofen, which is used as a growth inhibitor, improve the productive efficiency of soybeans by increasing the biological activity of the leaves. The study was conducted in the field with soybean cultivars NA 5909 RG and BMX Potência RR. The experiment followed a randomized complete block design with four treatments and five replicates: T1: control; T2: application of 140 g a.i ha-1 of lactofen in phenological stage V3; T3: application of 140 g a.i ha-1 of lactofen in phenological stage V6; and T4: application of 70 g a.i ha-1 of lactofen in phenological stage V3 + 70 g a.i ha-1 of lactofen in phenological stage V6. The interception of photosynthetically active radiation in the lower layer increased in all treatments. Lactofen application increased the percent area covered and the number of phytosanitary products spray droplets per cm² in the middle and lower layers of the plants. The lower third of the plants experienced the greatest effect of the treatments with regard to the number of pods, grains and grain weight, with treatment T2 presenting significant increases. The use of lactofen as a growth inhibitor at the beginning of pod development in soybean caused changes to plant architecture and root development, consequently enhanced the productive efficiency of the plant, primarily due to increased grain production in the lower layer. Future research using lactofen in different phenological stages and cultivars may provide more insights in to the performance of this growth inhibitor in soybean.

ABSTRACT:Hybridization is an important improvement method used in the soybean culture. However, there is little information on the recommended relative moisture and air temperature degree for artificial pollination. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the efficiency of artificial hybridization between soybean parents according to different periods of the day. Artificial pollination of 14 hybrid combinations occurred in greenhouse in three periods of the day. The parents were: TMG 801, TMG 803, BRSGO 7560, BRS Valiosa RR, Agua-Marinha RR and NK 7059 RR. The studied variables were: relative moisture, air temperature, number of days to flowering, performed artificial pollination, pods without sepal, produced seeds, germinated seeds, hybrid plants and percentage of pods without sepals. Data were submitted to normality and homogeneity of variance test, analysis of variance, Tukey, Scheffé and χ2 tests, and correlation analysis. Six hundred and seventy-two artificial pollinations were performed. From which were obtained 436 pods without sepals and approximately 90% of produced seeds was hybrid. The results indicated that artificial pollinations performed in January, with parent used in this study, were more efficient in the period from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m., with mean relative moisture of 34.1% and mean temperature of 38.5 ºC and 2:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with 30.7% and 41.6 ºC respectively for relative moisture and means of temperature.
