Global attention to climate change issues, especially air temperature changes, has drastically increased over the last half-century. Along with population growth, greater surface temperature, and higher greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, there are growing concerns for ecosystem sustainability and other human existence on earth. The contribution of agriculture to GHG emissions indicates a level of 18% of total GHGs, mainly from carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O). Thus, minimizing the effects of climate change by reducing GHG emissions is crucial and can be accomplished by truly understanding the carbon footprint (CF) phenomenon. Therefore, the purposes of this study were to improve understanding of CF alteration due to agricultural management and fertility practices. CF is a popular concept in agro-environmental sciences due to its role in the environmental impact assessments related to alternative solutions and global climate change. Soil moisture content, soil temperature, porosity, and water-filled pore space are some of the soil properties directly related to GHG emissions. These properties raise the role of soil structure and soil health in the CF approach. These properties and GHG emissions are also affected by different land-use changes, soil types, and agricultural management practices. Soil management practices globally have the potential to alter atmospheric GHG emissions. Therefore, the relations between photosynthesis and GHG emissions as impacted by agricultural management practices, especially focusing on soil and related systems, must be considered. We conclude that environmental factors, land use, and agricultural practices should be considered in the management of CF when maximizing crop productivity.

Aims: The study was conducted to assess the effects of different soil tillage practices and soil amendments on soil hydraulic characteristics. Study Design: The study was a 3 × 4 split-plot experiment arranged in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with 3 replications. Methodology: The treatments comprised 12 main plots, namely no till (NT), plough-plant (PP) and plough-harrow-plant (PHP) and 36 sub-plots, namely no amendment (NA), NPK 60:40:40 (100% NPK), 4 tons/ha poultry manure (100% PM) and 2 tons/ha PM + NPK 30:20:20 [½(NPK + PM)]. Soil bulk density (BD), volumetric moisture content (VMC), total porosity (TP), aggregate stability (ASt), and infiltration parameters were measured under the different treatments. Results: Among the different tillage operations, the NT plot had the lowest BD, but highest TP, VMC and ASt. With regard to the soil amendments, TP was highest under the ½(NPK + PM) treatment. The cumulative infiltration amount (F) and infiltration capacity (K0) were highest in the NT plots. However, sorptivity (S\(\theta\)) was highest and lowest in the PP and NT plots, respectively. The infiltration parameters were highest in the ½(NPK + PM) plots. Further, the combined application of NT + ½(NPK + PM) resulted in the highest F, S\(\theta\) and K0. Conclusion: The, NT, ½(NPK + PM) and NT + ½(NPK + PM) improved the soil hydro-physical properties.

Organic fertilisers are of biological origin and the amount of nutrients they produce varies greatly. Besides providing the essential macro and micro nutrients, they also provide an array of plant growth-promoting substances. Organic agronomy is a relatively recent technique of farming in developed countries. While several studies were conducted on the impact of organic fertilisers on soil properties and crop production, further research is needed to determine comparative results between organic fertilisers. This paper aims to review some of the influences and impacts of poultry manure, cow dung, goat manure, vermicomposter and seaweed extracts. Much-needed characteristics of numerous crops were enhanced with the appropriate application of these organic fertilisers. Organic fertilizer applications influences the increase of plant heights, vegetative growth, yields and yield attributes. The application of adequate fertilisers also influences the qualitative parameters and post-harvest traits of most crops. Selecting the best organic fertilisers at an optimal application rate that could be the best source of nutrient supplement in cultivating qualitative crops, is a gap that needs to bridge. Therefore, different application rates of the above organic fertilisers were also studied.
