Influence of particle size of nano zinc oxide on the controlled delivery of Amoxicillin

Abstract: A great effort has been exerted to develop drug carriers aiming at satisfying the requirements, such as safety, greater efficiency, predictable therapeutic response, and prolonged release period. The present study aims at developing the use of zinc oxide nanoparticles as a carrier as a function of particle size for amoxicillin drug delivery system. The amoxicillin-loaded zinc oxide nanoparticles have a good antibacterial activity against infectious Grampositive and Gram-negative bacteria. Zinc oxide nanopartic… Show more

“…[15] In addition, zinc has shown antibacterial effects. [16] In drug release systems, AMOX has been used with different drug carriers such as zinc oxide, [17] Chitosan and poly (acrylic acid), [18] HPMC, [19] sodium alginate coated with Chitosan. [20] Amoxicillin trihydrate is semisynthetic antibiotic.…”

“…However, the bioactivity of CS is weak and hence biologically active materials like collagen or GEL are added to overcome this problem GEL with Arg–Gly–Asp (RGD)‐like sequence, encourages cell adhesion and migration Since at physiological pH, which is almost neutral, the antibacterial activity of CS is very low antibacterial agents should be added to improve the antibacterial properties of CS in pH 7.4 . It had been shown that, zinc oxide nanoparticles with a size scale of smaller than 100 nm and at the appropriate concentration have powerful antibacterial activity without adverse effect on normal cells . Application of CS accompanying with ZnO has recently gained the interest of scientists working on the area of regenerative medicine .…”
