Influence of paper surface characteristics on fully inkjet printed PEDOT:PSS-based electrochemical transistors

Abstract: Paper electronics has emerged as an ecofriendly, light, low-cost, and recyclable material for the fabrication of flexible and printed transistors. In this study, we present fully printed organic electrochemical transistors using an active layer of PEDOT:PSS, carbon electrodes, cellulose-based electrolyte, and three different papers as substrates: bond, vegetal, and Lumi Silk, relating the electrical properties to the different morphologies of the paper surfaces. Each paper presents different regularity, diffus… Show more

“…51 The performance of our devices in this work is relatively high compared with those OECTs in the literature, in particular the ones based on non-metallic electrodes. [52][53][54][55][56][57][58] The properties of the LIG largely affected the output performances of the obtained OECTs, among which the transconductance was compared systematically. As is shown, the normalized transconductance of the OECT increased from 12 S to 31 S cm À1 when the laser power for LIG preparation increased from 2.6 to 3.0 W (Fig.…”

“…49 They used a low-voltage transistor using a paper composite as the required substrate and an ion gel as the dielectric, which has a significantly higher primary capacitance (21.5 nF/cm 2 ). Recently, Morais et al 50 demonstrated electrochemical transistors, and these transistors were entirely printed and organic by utilizing three different papers as substrates, such as Lumi silk/bond and vegetal. In this study, the authors characterized the surface of all three papers to influence the transistors' performances.…”

“…A relatively constant decrease in drain current was observed for a decade increase in BSA concentration from 1 pM to 10 μM. The change in drain current in response to each 43 Inal et al, 44 and Sun et al 45 concentration was then plotted in Fig. 5D and linear regression was added for low concentrations of BSA for the entire range of concentrations with an R 2 value of 0.9965.…”
