Influence of diet on the productivity and characteristics of goat milk

Abstract: The relationship between the quality of milk of different breeds of goat and their diets was assessed. Anglo-Nubian, German White and Alpine goats were used in the experiment, with 7 goats representing each breed. The influence of two diets viz., a routine diet (hay and concentrates) and a diet improved by introduction of granulated alfalfa hay, cabbage and carrots, as well as mixed feed on productivity and characteristics of goat milk were investigated. Goats were machine milked twice daily and the quantity a… Show more

“…The mean values of fat and protein content (3.35% and 3.29%) were lower than the results reported for Italian local breeds Girgentina, Maltese, Jonica and Mediteranean Red (Curro et al 2019 andCarnicella et al 2008). Regarding milk composition, our results for fat, protein and SNF content were in agreement with the results of Mioč et al (2007) and Zazharska et al (2018) for Alpine, Saanen or Anglo Nubian breeds. Our results confirm that Montenegrin population of Balkan goat breed possesses very important biological variability, typical for autochthonous breeds, which can be used for improvement of milk production traits.…”

“…A relevant task for the agro-industrial complex is the development of efficient biological scientifically-based and rationally-organized methods of control of numerous ectoparasites of agricultural animals. Elimination of invasive diseases significantly increases the volumes of production of livestock products (meat, milk) of high sanitary-hygienic quality (Zazharska et al, 2018;Kulyaba et al, 2019;Gutyj et al, 2019).…”

“…Rhabditida pathogens of nematodiases in mammals are most often represented by Strongyloides papillosus (Wedl, 1856). Helminthiases cause economic losses to livestock farms every year (Peter et al, 2015;Stachurska-Hagen et al, 2016;Thamsborg et al, 2017;Zazharska et al, 2018). S. papillosus is a nematode which affects the gastrointestinal tract and breathing organs (at the larva stage).…”
