Infant predictors of preschool and adult IQ: A study of infant twins and their parents.

Abstract: Measures of infant cognitive development in 208 pairs of twins were evaluated at 7,8, and 9 months of age. Measures included Fagan's Test of Infant Intelligence (FTII), visual expectation measures of reaction time and anticipation, selected items from the Bayley Scales of Infant Development, variety of vocalizations, Bayley's Infant Behavior Record (IBR), and others. The midparent IQ scores were regressed on the infant measures to evaluate the likelihood of predicting later IQ. Significant predictors were the … Show more

In contrast, relative stability after infancy is rather well described on the basis of quasi-simplex assumptions (Humphreys & Davey 1988, Molenaar et al 1991.…”

“…The research assistant who spent the most time with the twins also completed this questionnaire. Parent and tester ratings were averaged to assess zygosity (as done in the Twin Infant Project [TIP], DiLalla et al, 1990, and the MacArthur Longitudinal Twin Study [MLTS], Emde, et al, 1992).…”

“…The TIP, for which the ITS was recruited, developed and utilized the midtwin-midparent design as an alternative to traditional longitudinal twin study design (DiLalla et al, 1990). This experimental design used a regression of the average twin (midtwin) IQ score on average parental (midparent) IQ as the best estimate of the infants' mature IQ.…”
