Industry 4.0 and production recovery in the covid era

Abstract: This study aims to use a quantitative analysis to explore the effects of openness to Industry 4.0 on the perceived production recovery post the COVID-19 pandemic, mediated by digital and classical reorganization. Openness to Industry 4.0 is measured by the breadth of the number of technologies adopted. The production recovery is measured by the perception of firms that a return to pre-COVID-19 production levels will happen within either 2021, 2022, or 2023. “…A Markov decision-making process for scheduling in semiconductor fabrication is employed in [26], while a control algorithm based on Kalman filters is discussed in [27] for non-stationary batch service production, with promising results. In [28] they quantify the production recovery of SMEs in the post COVID-19 era according to their openness to Industry 4.0 technologies, indicating the importance of adaptive production planning and control in the management of the disruptive effect generated by the COVID-19 pandemic.…”

“…Therefore, a strategy to utilize the technology is needed to reduce direct contact without slowing the economic growth. This issue is the reason for the importance of using industry 4.0 technology (Cugno et al, 2022;Pingali & Korem, 2021). An innovative economic development model from rural areas is needed to boost the economic development by utilizing local resources such as agriculture.…”
