Indonesian children‘s readiness for elementary school: a preliminary study to the holistic approach to school readiness

“…Secara umum, aspek-aspek perkembangan yang dipersepsi orang tua terkait dengan kesiapan anak sebelum masuk Sekolah Dasar sejalan dengan beberapa faktor domain perkembangan yang disampaikan oleh Janus yang menyebutkan kesehatan fisik dan mental, kompetensi sosial, kematangan emosi, perkembangan kognitif dan bahasa serta keterampilan berkomunikasi dan pengetahuan umum sebagai kesiapan anak untuk sekolah (Janus, 2007(Janus, , 2011. Hasil ini juga sejalan dengan pendapat para professional di bidang early childhood dari 6 negara yang berbeda dan penelitian sebelumnya terkait persepsi orang tua dan guru di Indonesia mengenai kesiapan sekolah yang menyimpulkan bahwa kemandirian anak, kompetensi sosial dan keterampilan komunikasi merupakan karakteristik yang penting dan diprioritaskan untuk kesiapan anak bersekolah (Grissmer et al, 2010;Niklas et al, 2018;Pangestuti et al, 2018) Hasil dari penelitian ini juga menunjukkan bahwa tidak hanya aspek kesehatan fisik dan mental, kompetensi dan keterampilan sosial dan perkembangan bahasa serta kognitif yang dipersepsi orang tua menjadi kesiapan dan perlu untuk dipersiapkan sebelum anak masuk Sekolah Dasar. Orang tua juga mempersepsi faktor usia, aspek religiusitas dan aspek motivasi serta keinginan anak untuk masuk Sekolah Dasar menjadi hal yang juga terkait dalam kesiapan anak untuk sekolah.…”
