In Silico Study of The Component of Eleutherine americana MERR. on Human Estrogen Reseptor Alpha as Potential Anti-Breast Cancer

Abstract: Eleutherine americana (Indonesian: "bawang dayak") has been used traditionally to treat breast cancer by Borneo people. Its compounds contains eleutherine, eleutherinone, eleutherol, isoeleutherine, eleutherinol, dihydroeleutherinol, hongconin, and 6,8-dihydroxy-3,4dimethoxy-1-methyl-anthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester. Those compounds showed inhibitory activity against HeLa cell line and 7,12-dimethylbenz(a) anthracene (DMBA) induced mice at concentration of 100mg/mL. The present study was aimed to i… Show more

“…Urb.) which are from Iridacea family, contain eleutherinol compounds which have been reported that it can bind to estrogen receptors in silico study (Amelia et al, 2015). Considering the traditional use of this plant which has also been used to cure breast cancer, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, decreasing cholesterol, and stroke, it is expected that dayak onion bulbs could be alternative herb on the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Indonesia, Depok, Indonesia.…”

“…Examples of widely used SERMs are raloxifene and tamoxifen 4 . The ideal SERMs have anti-estrogen activity in the breast and endometrium, and estrogen activity can reduce the risk of osteoporosis and reduce total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, increase HDL, and improve cardiovascular function 5 . So it is encouraging to find an alternative treatment that has an ideal estrogenic effect, that is, agonists on estrogen receptors in non-reproductive organs and antagonists of estrogen receptors in the reproductive organs.…”
