Improved low voltage grid-integration of photovoltaic systems in Germany

Abstract: form only given. This work discusses the technical and economical benefits of different active and reactive power control strategies for grid-connected photovoltaic systems in Germany. The aim of these control strategies is to limit the voltage rise, caused by a high local photovoltaic power feed-in and hence allow additional photovoltaic capacity to be connected to the mains. Autonomous inverter control strategies, which do not require any kind of data communication between the inverter and its environment, a… Show more

“…Researchers already have investigated the impacts of DG on the distribution grid [6][7][8][9][10]. Besides feed-in control strategies for DG [11], grid-balancing measures have also been investigated. Demand side management (DSM) is being discussed as a promising approach for grid balancing [12,13], as it changes electricity demand of consumers with respect to the time pattern of consumption and/or load magnitude [14].…”

“…Violation of these limits can cause problems for sensitive consuming and generating facilities [4]. Hence, both over-and under-voltage issues can create major obstacles for penetration of renewable energy generation in future distribution networks [5]. Normally, the unbalance between the load and generation at any period is the main cause of the issues [6].…”
