Implementation of Product Design Tools for the Development of an Automated Vegetable Chopper

Abstract: In the era of industrialization, automatic machines become an integral part of human life. These machines help to reduce the time needed to do a specific task. Nowadays, human life becomes more competitive and faster than the previous. Automation brought about by technology has saved human effort and time to a large extent. Slicing vegetables are a risky and time-consuming task in our busy life. This project is aimed at solving above stated problems by introducing a special product named Automatic Vegetable Ch… Show more

“…So, there was a need to design and develop a quick, safe, and easy to use way to slice the vegetables to increase productivity and cost effectiveness. Similarly, shredding is the process of pushing the food across or through a shredding surface to make long, narrow strips out of it (Talapatra et al 2014) [12] . The chopping of vegetables is often seen as a form of stress that is put on the vegetables or fruits thus wounding their cells and triggering injury-based responses by the plant cells.…”

“…2. Design Criteria: Determining a chopping mechanism suitable to be applied to the chopper [7] , in the hope that the length of the chopping process result will meet SNI standard, namely 5-10 cm. and Studying the Rice Straw Characteristics: carrying out a measurement of the dimension, bulk density and moisture content of the rice straw as the basis for designing the chopper.…”

“…the belt (mm) Cp = distance between pulley center (mm) Dp = diameter of chopping cylinder's pulley (mm) dp = diameter of driving motor's pulley (mm)The mass of the belt can be calculated by the equation as follows[16]:(7) Note: mob = mass of the belt (kg) Ab = cross-sectional area of the belt (m 2 ) ρb = belt density (kg.m -3 ) Lb = length of the belt (m)…”
