Immunomodulation by probiotic lactobacilli in layer- and meat-type chickens

Abstract: 1. The aim of the experiments was to evaluate whether selected probiotic lactobacillus strains have different immunomodulating effects in layer- and meat-type strain chickens. 2. “…The CONT group had higher levels of red blood cells, haemoglobin and haematocrit, but it is important to consider that the recorded values of these parameters fall in the physiological ranges for post weaning rabbits (slightly higher for haematocrit) as reported by Archetti et al (2008): red blood cells 3.5-6.6¥10 6 ¥mL; haemoglobin 6.7-12.7 g/dL; haematocrit 18.9-34.7%.
