One concern in recent years is increasing the amount of nitrate in drinking water. This study investigated nitrate adsorption using sodium alginate/quaternary branched polyethylenimine /carboxylated multi-wall carbon nanotube nanocomposite beads. The structure of nanocomposite beads was characterized with Field emission scanning electron microscopy images (FE-SEM), Energy dispersive X-ray mapping (EDX), X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD), Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Several experiments were performed to optimize adsorption conditions, adsorption isotherms, kinetics, and reusability of the synthesized nanocomposite beads. Temkin and Freundlich isotherms, and the pseudo-first-order kinetic model, provided the best fit for the experimental adsorption data. Under optimal conditions, the nitrate removal efficiency was 72%. The results demonstrated that the introduced nanocomposite beads are pH-stable, have low-cost preparation, are recyclable at least for twelve adsorption-desorption cycles, and are safe.

The infections caused by bacteria have affected human health severely. The bacterial infections spread either directly or indirectly by coming in contact with the food during packaging or by the use of medical devices. The efficient theranostic systems for bacteria provide therapeutic effects that have received attentions in the research field. In this prospect, the fluorescent materials have gained tremendous recognition in the biological applications due to their excellent species diversity, optical properties and high sensitivity. However, most of the conventional fluorophores suffer aggregation‐caused quenching (ACQ) effects in the aggregated state. The opposite of ACQ is Aggregation Induced Emission (AIE), where AIEgens play an important role in the imaging, detecting and killing the bacteria as well. In this context, we have summarized the applications of AIEgens on multiple bacterial imaging, detection, discrimination and antibacterial activity to understand the modern theranostic system.

This paper describes synthesis, characterization and application of a series of Cu(II) complexes with a novel 3-thioxo-[1,2,4,5]tetrazocane-6,8-dione (N 4 ) macrocyclic ligand. The complexes were characterized by physicochemical and spectroscopic techniques, such as UV-visible and IR spectroscopies, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility measurements, and elemental analysis.The data suggest that the mononuclear Cu(II) complexes have a metal-to-ligand mole ratio of 1:1 and that the Cu(II) ions are coordinated with the four nitrogen atoms inside the N 4 macrocyclic ring. The experimental anisotropic g-values indicate that the chloro, nitrato, acetate, and perchlorato complexes have sixcoordinate distorted octahedral behavior, whereas the sulfato complex has five-coordinate square-pyramidal geometry. A simple and nontoxic method for preparation of CuO nanoparticles based upon the thermal decomposition of the synthesized Cu(II) complexes has been explored. Finally, the degradation of Rhodamine 6G dye by the catalytic performance of nano-sized CuO material has been evaluated.
