Immersed fins influence on the double slope solar still production in south Algeria climatic condition

Abstract: This work presents a theoretical and experimental study of a double slope still with fins immersed in a basin. The influence of the speed of wind, distance between fins, height of fins, number of fins and thickness of the water layer in the basin, on the production of the still, is investigated. From the results obtained, it is noted that for a wind speed greater than 3.5 m/s, a decrease in the productivity is caused by the cooling of the outer walls, and this induces some heat losses, especially at the front … Show more

“…The collector efficiency th is plotted against the reduced temperature (Ti-Tamb)/G, by combining the two Eqns. (8) and (9) from the measured quantities (q, Cp, To, Ti, A, G), [5]. The intercept ( F R τα) and slope (F R U L ) represent the thermal efficiency of the collector at zero reduced temperature and energy losses of collector, respectively.…”

“…In this work, we study the behavior of the sensor under the addition of an active convection using a fan supplied by a photovoltaic cell to pulse the air in the collector. The inclination of the support being fixed at the optimal Adrar latitude (28°), Algeria [9]. In addition, the realized solar collector is equipped by the inclination setting angle adjustment from 27° to 40°, this advantage allows to install it in different places and latitudes (such as Ghardaia, El-Bayadh and localities…).…”

“…In order to evaluate the efficiency of the slanted double-slope solar distillation unit (SDSD), solar intensity at the installation site was continuously recorded during the day. Other environmental parameters were also monitored including temperature at different spot inside the distillation system, wind speed, thermal conductivity and water height inside the distillation compartment [19]. Experimental data were used to numerically calculate the efficiency of the distillation unit through the Engineering Equation Solver (EES).…”
