Imaging Findings in Takayasu's Arteritis

Abstract: CT and MRI findings of TA include vascular wall thickening and enhancement early in the disease, and arterial stenoses, occlusions, and aneurysms later in the disease. Cross-sectional imaging is useful for establishing the diagnosis of TA and for showing response to nonsurgical therapy or for planning a surgical intervention.

“…CT has previously been shown to demonstrate vessel wall alterations in the setting of a normal vessel lumen in the diagnosis and follow-up of patients with early or advanced Takayasu arteritis. 13 In conclusion, the combination of new 320-detector row CTA and PCT may evolve into a novel, noninvasive, fast, and relatively inexpensive method to diagnose early LVCV accurately. In this patient with clinically suspected LVCV, characteristic findings were very useful in evaluating disease severity and monitoring response to treatment.…”

“…En éstas la CT y la resonancia magnética (RM) en general muestran engrosamiento de los vasos con realce variable de sus paredes 56 . El PET/CT ha mostrado utilidad para evaluar vasculitis de vasos grandes y medianos, como la enfermedad de Takayasu y arteritis de células gigantes (Figura 9), las que se estiman dan cuenta del 17% de las FOD 13 .…”

“…In magnetic resonance (MR) imaging early wall thickening can be depicted as well as mural edema. Both CT and MR show stenosis, mural thrombi, thickening of aortic valves cusp and peripheral effusion [12][13][14].…”
