Maps, which show the principle of distribution of geography and used in every stage of daily life, is a material used in social studies lesson. However, how to read and interpret maps is very important for both education and business life. The aim of this study is to determine the views of social studies teachers and middle school students on map reading and interpretation skills. In this research, teacher and student questionnaire developed by the researcher was used. In analyzing the data obtained in the research, frequency, percentage and arithmetic mean values, which are among the descriptive statistics techniques, were used. It was determined that pre-service teachers should be trained on computer applications related to map ( = 4.80). It has been determined that the average of teachers who use digital platforms such as Google-Earth to improve their map reading and interpretation skills is = 1.65. According to students, maps are important for social studies lessons ( = 4.90). Students know the meaning of the map and the colors on it ( = 4.19), but it has been determined that they have problems in drawing a draft map ( = 3.21). It was found that students made use of the phones, navigation devices, digital platforms and smart board in a fun way. Digital applications for maps, e-contents parallel to textbooks, interactive games and mute maps should be prepared.
