Identification of Anticoagulant Components in Korean Red Ginseng

Abstract: In this study, the anticoagulant compounds in Korean red ginseng (KRG) were investigated. KRG powder was extracted using hot methanol, and the methanol extract was fractionated into n-hexane, ethylacetate, n-butanol, and aqueous fractions by solvent partitioning. The remains from the methanol extraction were further extracted with water and then dialyzed to obtain low and high molecular weight fractions. The anticoagulant activities of the seven fractions were evaluated in terms of thrombin time, prothrombin t… Show more

“…They are characterized by antioxidant, antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, anti-infl ammatory, and gastric-secretion stimulatory actions, documented by in vitro and in vivo studies [Czapski, 2005;Labus et al, 2011;Liu et al, 2013]. In addition, protocatechuic acid has been shown to possess immunomodulating, spasmolytic, cardioprotectant, anticoagulant, and chemopreventive properties [Wee, 2010]. The contents of phenolic compounds in fruiting bodies of A. bisporus range from 2.31 mg/kg D.W. for p-coumaric acid to 2729 mg/kg D.W. for myricetin [Czapski, 2005;Labus et al, 2011;Liu et al, 2013].…”

“…Phytochemical characteristics of Pa-EE and standard compound quercetin were identified by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis (Wee et al, 2010); the system was equipped with KNAUER (Wellchrom HPLC-pump, K-1001, Wellchrom fast scanning spectrophotometer K-2600, and 4 channel degasser K-500). Elution solvents were buffer A (0.1% TFA in H 2 O) and buffer B (0.08% TFA in 95% ACN + 5% H 2 O).…”

“…Recently, it is reported that KRG-TS has an effect on CVD through reduction of blood pressure (Chung, 2010), anti-coagulation effects (Wee et al, 2010), endothelium relaxation (Jung et al, 2011), and inhibition of hypercholesterolemia-induced platelet aggregation (Hwang et al, 2008). In our previous report, we demonstrated that KRG-TS was involved in increase of cAMP level and subsequent reduction of [Ca 2+ ] i mobilization in thrombin-induced rat platelet aggregation (Lee et al, 2013).…”
