The intensification of deforestation and the consequent fragmentation of the natural landscape in urban and periurban watersheds affect the entire eco-hydrological system, increasing the need to understand how these changes can affect their sustainability. In this sense, the present study evaluated the potential implications of forest fragmentation for the management of the Tarumã-Açu basin, based on the characterization of the structural and functional patterns of the landscape. For this, we mapped and categorized the basin’s forest fragments, based on the supervised classification (Bhattacharyya Method) of Landsat/OLI image, and, subsequently, we calculated the landscape metrics (area, density and size, edge, form, core, isolation and connectivity). The metrics showed a very fragmented landscape, especially in the region of the basin's low course, which concentrates the smallest, most dispersed, and vulnerable fragments even in conservation units. The headwater region, on the other hand, has the largest patches, with a large amount of central area and high structural and functional connectivity, which are fundamental for the sustainability of the basin and, therefore, deserve attention and prioritization by managers. The results offer important subsidies and unpublished data that can contribute to elaboration of the basin’s management plan and for the definition of conservation and restoration strategies of the forest remnants, indicating priority areas for the implementation of these actions.

A avaliação da fragilidade ambiental das bacias hidrográficas vem se tornando cada vez mais importante no cenário ambiental, devido ao desenvolvimento gradativo da sociedade e a expansão tecnológica e econômica ao longo dos anos. Uma estratégia adotada para amenizar a degradação e restabelecer o equilíbrio, é a formação de corredores ecológicos (CEs), que auxilia na ligação entre remanescentes naturais. A bacia do rio Piracicaba passa por um longo histórico de degradação e de fragmentação florestal, principalmente próximo às cidades devido ao desmatamento de matas ciliares. Em vista disso, este trabalho analisou e comparou a aplicação de dois diferentes modelos de fragilidade ambiental, aplicada a esta bacia e, a partir de seus produtos identificou a melhor metodologia base para a proposição de corredores ecológicos na região. Com os resultados obtidos, foi possível inferir que, além de grande parte da bacia apresentar grau de fragilidade entre fraco e médio, as áreas mais vulneráveis são aquelas mais próximas à cabeceira da bacia. O estabelecimento dos corredores ecológicos abrangeu, prioritariamente, as áreas de maior fragilidade entre a conexão dos fragmentos de vegetação e as Áreas de Preservação Permanentes (APPs), assim, verificou-se que é necessário o reflorestamento de cerca de 342,24 km² das APPs da bacia para que seja possível a conexão entre as remanescentes e 2,0 km² de áreas de ligação. Comparative analysis of the environmental fragility of the Piracicaba river basin using two methodological models: support for the application and proposition of Biological Corridors A B S T R A C TThe assessment of a river basin’s environmental fragility has become even more important on the environmental scenery due to society’s gradual development and technological and economic expansion over the years. An adopted strategy to ease the degradation and restore the ecological balance is the establishment of biological corridors that can assist the connection between natural forest patches. The Piracicaba river basin has been going through a long history of degradation and forest fragmentation, especially near the cities because of the deforestation of riparian forests. Therefore, this paper analyzed and compared the application of two adapted environmental fragility models in this river basin and identified from their products the best base methodology for the proposition of ecological corridors. From the results, it was possible to infer that, in addition to a big part of the basin present poor and average fragility level, the most vulnerable areas are the ones close to the source of the main rivers. The biological corridors establishment covered, primarily, the most vulnerable areas between the fragments of remaining forests and the Permanent Preservation Areas (PPAs) and, from this, it was possible to verify that the reforestation of around 132,14 mi² of PPAs is necessary for the connection of patches of remaining forests and 0,77 mi² of connections areas.Keywords: environmental vulnerability, geoprocessing, environmental management.

The abundance of spiders in most terrestrial ecosystems makes them good indicators of habitat changes because they are common animals in most terrestrial ecosystems. Due to the importance of knowing the diversity of spiders for conservation efforts and the lack of studies on the spider fauna in urban parks, this work aimed to collect and identify the diversity of spiders present in an isolated fragment of native Atlantic Rainforest vegetation, in an urban area on Diadema, São Paulo. We used pitfall traps over 28 days and active nocturnal search for two hours per night over 6 nights as collection methods. We found a total of 328 individuals, of which 118 adult spiders were assigned to 13 families and 37 morphospecies. Species of families Nemesiidae, Theraphosidae and Deinopidae were found, which are not expected in urban areas. The highest values of abundance were found for the Theridiidae family, with 59 individuals and Araneidae with 28, totaling 73.7% of the total sampled, with Nephilingis cruentata and Parasteatoda tepidariorum being the most abundant morphospecies, with 15 and 11 adult individuals collected, respectively. The richness found in this work was 37 morphospecies and according to the diversity estimators Chao 1 and 2 and Jacknife 1 and 2, it was estimated that the richness of the Diadema Botanical Garden is between 44 and 54 species, a result close to the number of species collected, which indicates that the sampling effort of this work was satisfactory. This work is one of the few inventories of spider fauna in urban fragments of the Atlantic Rainforest and the first study in the Diadema city, one of the cities with the highest population density in the country. It is important to empathize that the results showed a rich and diverse araneofauna when compared with other similar studies, even in an extremely isolated fragment in one of the cities with the highest population density in the state. Public policies specifically aimed at the conservation of these areas should be encouraged so that their preservation is secured.
