In vitro comparison of the flexibility of different splint systems used in dental traumatology

Abstract: The data show that the contention devices with the highest flexibility are the TTS and the Ribbond THM as they exhibit a lower energy variation needed for splint deformation compared with the other materials that were examined.

“…This model allows individual adjustment of tooth mobility using apical screws. The results of previous studies show an influence (3,4,(15)(16)(17)20) or positive correlation (4) between the initial tooth mobility and the splint effect. Influence of splint type on splint rigidity (P-values) ruptured fiber apparatus and hematoma within the widened periodontal gap.…”

“…In addition, the splint should enable the patient to conduct oral hygiene as well as comfortably load the teeth during mastication (1)(2)(3)(4)(5)(6)(7). Adhesively attached trauma splints consist of various reinforcements such as wires, fiber materials, or fishing line; these splints fulfill most of these treatment-related requirements (3,4,10,(13)(14)(15)(16)(17). Trauma involving the periodontal ligament [PDL], after dislocation injuries, requires flexible splinting to allow the transmission of functional forces and improved outcome (3,5,8,9,11).…”

“…A retrospective study of traumatic dental injuries in a Brazilian dental trauma clinic.
