Hyphenation in sample preparation: Advancement from the micro to the nano world

Abstract: Analysis at trace levels, an ideal area of application for hyphenated techniques, is steadily gaining importance. Many sample pre-concentration and clean-up methods have been hyphenated with core analytical techniques to accomplish the task of low level detection. The present article describes the state of the art of hyphenation of various techniques such as solid phase extraction, micro-solid phase extraction, dialysis, and chromatographic modalities etc. with liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, capill… Show more

“…And, of course, these approaches may be utilized for chiral analyses too. It is intresting to note that among few sorts of sample preparation SPE has achieved a good reputation in analytical science due to its ease of operation, selective, time and costly chemical saving nature [8]. Some reviews have been published on the pre-treatment and sample preparation methodologies for the achiral analysis of pollutants [9][10][11][12][13].…”

“…Moreover, these methods potentially expose the analyst and the environment to hazardous and toxic organic solvents. Reviews about hyphenation and high-throughput bioanalysis have been recently published [13,14]. In this article, we present a new analytical method based on online SPE-LC-ESI-MS/MS for determination of VLX in human plasma using fluoxetine (FXT, Fig.…”

“…There are several methods for sample preparation, such as microwave-assisted extraction (Pedersen and Lindholst, 1999), liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) (Helaleh et al, 2001), solid-phase microextraction (SPME) (Sanagi et al, 2015;Ali et al, 2008), liquid phase microextraction (LPME) (Basheer and Lee, 2004), molecularly imprinted solid-phase extraction (Canale et al, 2010;Ali, 2009), dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DLLME) (Rezaee et al, 2009) and solid-phase extraction (SPE). Among these methods, LLE is an exhaustive traditional preparation technique used to extract and preconcentrate different analytes from environmental water samples.…”
