This paper primarily discusses the assessment of stray DC and AC-induced corrosion phenomena on steel fibres and the analysis of the main influencing parameters. Instrumental methods in electrochemistry including Tafel polarization, Cyclic Potentiodynamic (CP) polarization and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) were used to assess the corrosion resistance of steel fibres which has great potential to replace conventional steel reinforcement in railway tunnel construction. The analytical model based on electric circuit modelling indicates that concrete containing discrete steel fibres has an inherent corrosion resistance to stray AC interference due to the electrical double layer developed on the surface.

Rare Earth Cerium Increases the Corrosion Resistance of NdFeB Magnets

Herein, we investigated the effects of Ce on the corrosion behavior of NdFeB magnets in 3.5% NaCl solutions using electrochemical tests, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) mapping, and scanning Kelvin probe force microscopy (SKPFM). We demonstrated that Ce markedly enhances the corrosion resistance of NdFeB magnets. Ce primarily replaces Nd in the Nd-rich phase instead of matrix phase, increasing the surface potential of the Nd-rich phase. An increase in the Ce content from 0 to 5.21 wt%, decreased the potential difference between the main phase and (Nd, Ce)-rich phase from 350.2 mV to 97.7 mV; therefore, the corrosion resistance of the magnetic materials increased. The corrosion resistance constituted the Nd-rich phase < the void < metal matrix. Moreover, based on the results of the study, we discussed the impact mechanism of additions of Ce on the corrosion resistance of the magnets.

The effect of deep-sea environments on the properties of calcareous deposits was studied and we established the mapping relationship between their cathodic protection potential and the temperature (T), pressure (P), dissolved oxygen (DO), and the properties of the calcareous deposits according to the response surface methodology. This revealed that the calcareous deposits mixed with CaCO 3 and Mg(OH) 2 under cathodic protection. The environment including temperature, pressure, and oxygen content had various impacts on the thickness, porosity, and the ratio of Ca and Mg. Moreover, the calcareous deposits slightly decreased the cathodic protection potential. Therefore, it can be believed that the cathodic protection potential for naked high-strength steel is also approximately applicable to that covered with calcareous deposits in the deep-sea environment.
