Hydrophilic nanofibrous composite membrane prepared by melt-blending extrusion for effective separation of oil/water emulsion

Abstract: EVOH nanofiber membrane was prepared by melt blending extrusion and high-speed airflow deposition. Then NCC/EVOH nanofiber composite membranes were obtained via coating and deposition the barrier layer on the surface of the nanofiber membrane for oil/water separation.

“…The methodology involves the deposition of a hydrophilic polymer layer on the surface of a membrane (flat or hollow fiber) formed, as a rule, from a hydrophobic synthetic polymer. The formation of the surface layer is carried out in various ways: immersion [ 59 ], dipping [ 60 ], sputtering [ 61 ], and the introduction of appropriate additives into the precipitation bath during membrane formation [ 62 , 63 ]. An interesting approach to surface treatment is the plasma treatment of membranes [ 64 ].…”

“…A comparison of different nanofiber production techniques is summarized in Table 2 . To date, the electrospinning technique is the most applied to produce nanofiber membranes for the oil/water separation [ 18 ], followed by melt-blowing [ 19 ] and melt-blending extrusion [ 20 ].…”
