Hybrid power filter for advanced power quality in industrial systems

Abstract: a b s t r a c tThe paper presents the structure and control strategy of the hybrid power filter (HPF) with a split passive part. Its impedance is divided into two parts tuned to 50 Hz and 250 Hz.The HPF topology is very efficient to mitigate harmonic currents. The fundamental frequency voltage at the converter terminals is remarkably small in comparison with the grid voltage at the same moment. The HPF functionality is only negligibly influenced by the grid inductance changes. The HPF characteristics were compa… Show more

“…Theoretically, they can suppress any harmonic but, in practice, this is limited by their switching-frequency [21]. However, APFs are more expensive than passive filters and the cost increases sharply for high-power applications [60,65]. Hybrid power filters are a cost-effective solution for these cases [65].…”

“…Modern industrial facilities comprise numerous sensitive loads, which pose increasingly higher power quality requirements [1][2][3][4][5][6]. Operation of a sensitive load can be disturbed by the common voltage sags, swells and interruptions.…”

“…The hybrid APF emerged as an alternative to overcome this rating constraint as it requires a small capacity inverter. Out of many hybrid APF configurations , the series hybrid APF (SHAPF) and its control techniques are more studied in recent time . The SHAPF is capable of compensating both voltage harmonic generating loads as well as current harmonic generating loads, and simultaneously, it can correct for abnormal utility voltages .…”
