The focus of the article is the design of a HVAC (heating, ventilation and air-conditioning) system for the main central space of a real multifunctional indoor sports arena. Numerical simulation of the air fl ow provided a basis to determine the optimal number of fi re ventilators, their capacity and placement, and also to determine the maximum air-fl ow velocity in openings designed for evacuation in the event of an emergency. The ANSYS Fluent 13.0 software one of the world's most sophisticated CFD (computational fl uid dynamics) codes was used for the numerical simulation. In this case, the specifi c problem of a turbulent fl ow in a complex geometry was under investigation. This study should serve as a base for future installation of the system in the indoor sports arena.

The paper addresses methods to evaluate the ventilation efficiency both in regard to air exchange and to contaminant removal in a room. Extra variables are introduced via transport differential equations which are solved by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Ventilation efficiency indices are defined and computed by alternative methods with an excellent agreement. For the numerical calculations a test chamber with a fume cupboard has been modelled and simulated. The paper discusses peculiarities in the calculation of the passive scalar equations to ensure mass conservation. Guidelines for optimal locations of the exhaust grilles of ventilation systems have been proposed to maximize ventilation efficiency.

COVID-19 virus, which is a member of the coronavirus family, is a virulent virus that is transmitted by physical contact or air and results in death in infected people. People infected by the COVID-19 virus must be kept in quarantine in a closed area. Therefore, it is very important for the health of the individuals (patient, doctor, nurse, etc.) in the isolation room that, where the area kept closed is completely free of virus. This study was conducted to examine the flow dynamics of the air in the isolation chamber. With the simultaneous operation of the sanitized air machine and the ventilation in the room, it is aimed to investigate the virus killing effect of the air mixed with each other. The flow dynamics, velocity, temperature and turbulence kinetic energy of the air in the isolation chamber were examined. Investigations were carried out to ensure that the mixture of the two air in the room was better and distributed throughout the room.
