Background Recently, clinical studies have described an association between albumin and the derived neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (dNLR) with several diseases. This study was aimed to investigate the albumin‐dNLR (ALB‐dNLR) score in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients and assess its relationship with clinical and laboratory parameters of RA. Methods We retrospectively enrolled 127 RA patients, 155 osteoarthritis (OA) patients, and 155 healthy controls. The ALB‐dNLR score was based on serum albumin level, neutrophil count, and white cell count. The Spearman's rank test was used to measure the correlations between ALB‐dNLR score and disease activity as well as laboratory indexes. Results The ALB‐dNLR score was significantly higher in RA patients than in OA patients (P < 0.001) and in healthy controls (P < 0.001). The proportion of higher ALB‐dNLR score has been raised along with increased disease activity (P < 0.001). The Spearman's rank test showed that ALB‐dNLR score was positively associated with DAS28 score, CRP, ESR, IgA, and platelet count. Moreover, the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve showed that the area under the curve (AUC) of ALB‐dNLR was 0.693 (95% CI: 0.631‐0.755), which was higher than that of albumin (AUC: 0.625, 95% CI: 0.559‐0.692) and dNLR (AUC: 0.680, 95% CI: 0.617‐0.743) alone. Conclusions The results demonstrate that the ALB‐dNLR score increased in RA patients. The ALB‐dNLR score may be a useful marker to estimate the disease activity of RA patients.

Objective: In this study, the parameters of oxidative stress markers and thiol-disulfide homeostasis as a novel biomarker were evaluated in experimental groups of adult individuals, which were formed according to the body mass index (BMI). Materials and Methods: A total of 165 adult patients were grouped as normal weight (BMI 18.5-24.9, n=39), preobese or overweight (BMI 25-29.9, n=47), obese (BMI 30-34.9; n=44), and severely obese (BMI >35, n=35). In addition to thiol-disulfide homeostasis parameters, the total oxidant status (TOS), total antioxidant status (TAS), oxidative stress index (OSI), ischemia-modified albumin (IMA), albumin, and ceruloplasmin levels were determined. Results: Native thiol, total thiol, and native thiol/total thiol % levels were significantly decreased in the overweight, obese, and severely obese groups compared to the normal weight group (p<0.001). Disulfide levels were elevated in the overweight group compared to the normal weight group (p<0.01). While the TOS and OSI levels of the normal weight group were elevated compared to the overweight (p<0.001) and obese/severely obese groups (p<0.05), albumin levels of the normal weight group were reduced compared to other groups (p<0.001). The IMA levels of the overweight group were elevated compared to the normal weight and severely obese groups (p<0.05 and p<0.001, respectively). Ceruloplasmin levels of the severely obese group were increased compared to the normal weight and overweight groups (p<0.001 and p<0.01, respectively). Conclusion: In our study, oxidative stress was increased in groups with a BMI greater than normal (≥25). In addition to this, the oxidative stress and thiol-disulfide homeostasis markers are observed to be further increased in the overweight group than the obese (≥30) group due to body's reaction to first inconsistency.

Pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH) is a major pregnancy complication that causes pregnant women mortality. Here, we had scrutinized the correlation between serum levels of -hCG and biochemical parameters in PIH. Serum samples were collected from eighty Iraqi women (forty women with pregnancy-induced hypertension as patients group, twenty normotensive pregnant women as a positive control, and twenty normotensive non-pregnant women as a negative control) all groups were diagnosed clinically. All -hCG hormone level was measured for all studied groups, also serum uric acid, albumin, and total protein levels were measured as biochemical parameters. Data analysis showed that serum level of -hCG hormone was significant increase (p≤0.05) in PIH in compared to control groups. Also Uric acid level was increased significantly in PIH group in compared with control groups. While Albumin show there was no significant difference in PIH group. Total serum protein level was measured by Bradford total Protein assay all results was in normal value and showed a significant difference in PIH group in comparison to control groups. Our study shows that there is correlation between β-hCG with uric acid and albumin levels in PIH. Serial estimation of serum β-hCG, uric acid, and albumin can be important to use as a marker of disease and also can be used in better early management of established cases that lead to preeclampsia and eclampsia.
