The research explores the experiences of Polish migrant workers in the UK hospitality sector. It reports quantitative and qualitative empirical data on the migrants' reasons for entering the hospitality workforce and their subsequent employment experiences. The findings reveal the main motive for entering employment in hospitality is for self development as migrants wish to use and learn foreign languages, gain work experience and receive other benefits that the sector provides.These self development opportunities are viewed as a means to improve career prospects in the UK or upon return to Poland. Once in the sector, positive experiences associated with hospitality employment include opportunities to meet people and work in a lively environment. Negative aspects relate to working conditions, low pay, physically demanding jobs, discrimination and management behaviour. The research suggests that certain practices and working conditions in the sector pose an obstacle to the long term commitment of migrant workers. Suggestions for the management of migrant human resources are outlined.

Adopción de innovaciones en servicios turísticos: Un estudio de casos múltiples en los bares y restaurantes del paseo marítimo de Aracaju (SE, Brasil)Éder Danilo Bezerra 1 Débora Eleonora Pereira da Silva 2 Resumo: O presente trabalho tem como objetivo principal analisar, através de um estudo de múltiplos casos, o impacto causado pela adoção de novas tecnologias em empresas de turismo, que cada vez mais incorporam a tecnologia às suas atividades. Para tal, foram conduzidas entrevistas semiestruturadas com gestores de quatro bares e restaurantes da orla de Aracaju (Sergipe/Brasil), apoiadas por uma survey que avaliou como a adoção da comanda eletrônica por essas empresas pode afetar tanto a percepção de seus clientes em relação à qualidade do atendimento, quanto à percepção dos funcionários sobre essa tecnologia enquanto ferramenta de trabalho. Nesse sentido, esta pesquisa baseia-se na teoria da difusão de inovações proposta por Rogers (1995), que aponta cinco atributos percebidos em inovações que influenciam a decisão individual de se adotar ou se rejeitar uma inovação. Como resultados e implicações do estudo, destaca-se a tentativa de se fazer uma ponte entre conceitos dicotômicos em inovação, ressaltando o papel da tecnologia no setor de serviços, e proporcionando uma reflexão sobre a convergência dos aspectos humanos e tecnológicos que transformam conceitos e ideias já enraizados nos estudos sobre inovação e turismo, além da discussão sobre até que ponto existe a necessidade de que esse setor aumente a presença tecnológica em suas atividades, diante das diferentes percepções das partes envolvidas sobre o papel da inovação tecnológica em turismo.
