BACKGROUND: Prediabetes is a condition that precedes the onset of diabetes mellitus (DM), DM disagreement, and penalties are needed through the management of prediabetes. AIM: This study aimed to study the effect of giving cinnamon stems (Cinnamomum burmannii) for 14 days on the levels of fasting adult blood sugar (glukosa darah puasa [GDP]) in prediabete adults in Makassar City. METHODS: This research method uses a quasi-experimental randomized pre-test design with a control group. There are 28 samples from a total of 167 communities in the working area of Pampang and Antara Community Health Center who have diabetes risk factors. Levels of GDP, Anthropometry, knowledge level, and 24-h recall were taken from samples that were divided into two groups of cinnamon stew studio with a dose of 10 g + education for the intervention group and education for the control group. Data were analyzed using the will-coxon test and the Mann–Whitney test. RESULTS : The results showed that significant changes in GDP after giving cinnamon stew and education in the intervention group (p = 0.032), there was a change in GDP levels but not significant after providing education in the control group (p = 0.197), for the average difference change in GDP in the group intervention (−4.14) is greater than the control group (−2.50) but the magnitude of change in GDP is not significant, whereas there is no significant difference in GDP levels between the intervention group and the control group after the intervention (p = 0.270). Consumption of 10 g of cinnamon stew for 14 days can reduce fasting blood sugar levels. CONCLUSION: Based on the results of the study, there were significant changes in GDP after giving cinnamon stew and education in the intervention group, there was a change in GDP levels but not significant after providing education in the control group, the average change in the intervention group was greater than the control group but the change in GDP not significant, there was no significant difference in GDP levels between the intervention group and the control group after the intervention.

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder disease which should be giving an antidiabetic therapy. Antidiabetic therapy causes several side effects, one of which is in oral health status such as a decrease in salivary flow rate which affects the acid-base balance (pH) in the oral cavity. Acidic saliva changes in oral health conditions. The study aimed to find out the oral health status, salivary flow rate and salivary pH in DM patients who routinely consume antidiabetic medicines. Quantitative descriptive research with a cross sectional approach was used in this study. Thirty patients with Type 2 DM who took antidiabetic medicines participated in this study selected by purposive sampling. Measurement of oral health status, salivary flow rate and salivary pH used the Oral Health Assessment Tool (OHAT); draining method with syringe and timer; and pH test strips. Most of the respondents' oral health status was unhealthy with a mean ± SD 10.13 ± 1.19, low salivary flow rate with a mean ± SD 0.17 ± 0.04 ml/minute and acidic salivary pH with a mean ± SD 6.25 ± 1.89. Most of the respondents had unhealthy oral health status, low salivary flow rate and acidic salivary pH. It is very important for diabetic patient to maintain the oral health status.

ABSTRAKBackground: Stunting is a new issue that has a bad impact on nutritional problems in Indonesia because affects the physical and functional body of the child and increases children's morbidity. Banjarbaru has the highest prevalence of stunting at 5-12 age, number two in South Kalimantan with 12.32%. Previous studies found stunting dental caries index is 8.23 with a very high category compared to normal children in 3.3, which is a moderate category. A poor salivary flow rate of more than 60 seconds has a very high DMF-T rate. Purpose: To Analyze the correlation of salivary flow rate in stunting children to the dental caries level at Elementary School Students in Sungai Tiung, Kecamatan Cempaka, Banjarbaru. Material and Method: This study used analytic observational research with cross sectional method. The sampling technique in this study was using probability techniques which were taken by cluster random sampling. The minimum number of samples in this study were 51 respondents, that determined with Numerical-Numerical Correlative Analytic samples formula. Results: The nutritional status of severe stunting group was 67.93% and the moderate stunting group was 32.07%. The average of salivary flow rate in stunting children was 0.09781 ml/minute which categorized in hyposalivation. The average def-t/DMF-T index in stunting children was 11.32, which is a very high category. The Spearman Correlation Test results obtained the result of sig value p = 0,000 (p <0.05) with the direction of the correlation -0.535 level of the strong category. Conslusion: There is a correlation between the average value of salivary flow rate in stunting children and the level of dental caries in Elementary School Students in Sungai Tiung, Kecamatan Cempaka, Banjarbaru.Keywords: Dental Caries, Salivary Flow Rate, Stunting.
