Reef composition and diversity of coral reef fishes play an essential role in the ecosystem. The reef fish diversity is a crucial indicator of the health level of coral reef ecosystems. The benefit of fish diversity in coral reef ecosystems is to describe ecological services. This research intended to determine reef fish diversity among stations at different depths, consisting of shallow water and reef slope. Research sampling was done in July 2018 and July 2019 in Tunda Island waters at eight stations billowing the coral distribution pattern. Collected data of reef fishes were by using Underwater Visual Census (UVC) on Belt Transects Method at 250 m2 transect area (50 meters of length and 2.5 m on either side). The result showed 69 reef fishes in shallow water and 67 species on the reef slope. The total of fish species ware from 13 families consisting of Acanthuridae, Apogonidae, Blenniidae, Chaetodontidae, Ephippidae, Haemulidae, Labridae, Lutjanidae, Nemipteridae, Pomacentridae, Pseudochromidae, Scaridae and Serranidae. The community services structure of coral reef fishes is included in the moderate community stability category with an H’ value ranging from 1.19-1.60 in shallow water and 1.23-1.44 at reef slope, respectively. Diversity in coral reef fish communities might be associated with species' spatial distribution over the reef habitat's physical structure, but these patterns could be highly scale-dependent. In general, it could be said that the higher the coral reef diversity, the higher the reef fish diversity.

The importance of coral reefs for humans and marine biota must be conserved due to threat of climate change and anthropogenic pressures, one of which is in a cluster of small islands in Indramayu Regency, (comprising Biawak, Candikian and Gosong island). This study aims to assess the status of coral reefs in Indramayu (percent cover, diversity, uniformity, and dominancy of the coral reef ecosystem) as well as the potential correlation with fish abundance. Areas of interest were pre-determined using Lyzenga method, ground truth using the LIT (Line Intercept Transect), while genus-based fish abundance using UVC (Underwater Visual Census) method. This study revealed that the status of coral reefs is in moderate condition. The diversity index ranges from 1 to 3, and dominancy index is less than 0.50, indicating a stable reef community where no dominant genus is found in the community. The correlation between fish abundance and the live coral cover percentage showed a positive linear association. These results indicate that current coral reef ecosystems seem unaffected by anthropogenic pressures. It is expected that these results can be used by local authorities to conserve coral reef ecosystems and marine biota, and to maintain the sustainability of community livelihoods.

The study was conducted in December 2016 to February 2017 in East Halmahera waters with the aim to examine the relationship between the length of weight and potential and the level of utilization of tuna. The results showed that the long frequency distribution of tuna was ranging from 10.0-28.2 cm, with a maximum length value of 29.93 cm, a growth coefficient of 0.74 per month and a measure of fish worth catching for spawning. The relationship between the weight of tuna in East Halmahera waters is W=0.0078L3.2982, where the length of tuna is greater than this weight increase due to environmental conditions and oceanographic parameters that affect the growth of tuna. The results of the MSY analysis or the sustainable resource potential of tuna in East Halmahera waters using the Fox method, found that the MSY value or sustainable potential of tuna was 4,176.54, with a maximum effort level of 8,047 Trips. This utilization rate is still low from the value of MSY and continues to decline this is due to the low value of fishing efforts.
