“…The XRD analysis confirmed the presence of the Zr, Cr and O elements over the surface. The addition of ZrO 2 in the coating of the substrate material increases the resistance to the corrosion, such behaviour of ZrO 2 particles was also observed by Kumar et al (2020) and Ebrahim-Ghajari et al (2015). The 20 Wt.% ZrO 2 –Cr 2 O 3 coating on T-22 steel provided even better resistance than uncoated, Cr 2 O 3 -coated T-22 boiler steel and 10 Wt.% ZrO 2 –Cr 2 O 3 -coated T-22 boiler steel.…”

“…The results showed that the deposition of tungsten carbide had led to increase in the oxidation resistance. Kumar et al (2020) carried out the systematic experimental study to evaluate the hot corrosion behaviour of zirconium yttrium composite coating reinforced with carbon Nano tubes and concluded that the CNT-reinforced composite coating provided the better corrosion resistance, while porosity of the composite coating was decreased with the addition of the CNT in the zirconium yttrium coating. It has been also observed from the literature that no research has been done using the zirconium and chromium composite coating on ASTM-SA213-T-22 boiler steel.…”

“…Thus, CNT plays a vital role in the reduction of hot corrosion. The voids, cracks and micro holes in the coating microstructure were filled with the CNT, which acts as a barrier to the corrosive elements (Kumar et al , 2020a, 2020b; Alia et al , 2017b; Gell et al , 2018). Therefore, based on the present research work, it can be concluded that CNT reinforcement in ZrO 2 Y 2 O 3 coatings was able to provide better corrosion resistance than the conventional coatings for boiler alloy steel at an elevated working temperature.…”

“…Furthermore, due to the polarization phenomenon of CNTs, the appropriate CNT content can effectively enhance the corrosion resistance of the material [26][27][28][29]. In addition, CNTs can also be used with other elements to strengthen the properties through synergistic interactions or by refining the grain [30][31][32][33][34]. CNTs can also strengthen the thermal stability of materials by filling the pores [35].…”
