Honeybee keeping constraints and future prospects

Abstract: Honeybee is a beneficial insect for human beings. However, their valuable products and colonies became decline from time to time. For instance, in the USA alone it declined from 60% to 26% from 1947 to 2008. However, the demand increased since it is important for a wide variety of uses. This review paper is, therefore, aimed to explore the major constraints of honeybee productions that were sourced from both abiotic and biotic factors and their management. Most of the constraints were extreme temperatures, rel… Show more

“…25 The FHs and BHs displayed significant difference (p < 0.05). The proline contents results were within Moroccan honeys proline values (251.46 to 924.98 mg/kg) described by 13 and greater than Tunisian honeys (39.62 to 102.22 mg/ kg) reported by 10,38 recorded much higher values (414 to 562 mg/kg) for Iranian honeys.…”

“…The effects of increasing urbanization have been found to be additive rather than interactive, i.e., urbanization imposes changes not only on managed honey bee colonies but on feral populations with respect to their pathogens [53]. What is worrying is the fact that many of the beekeeping practices used and applied have also drastically changed the intensity of the invasion of various pathogens in honey bees [54,55]. In this regard, widespread prevalence of N. ceranae in poorly managed bee colonies has been found [56,57].…”

“…The severe losses of brood, colony collapse, and extreme contagiousness make EFB and AFB economically important diseases, notifiable in many countries [ 15 , 269 ]. In most European countries, at least, the only measure to counteract them is the destruction of symptomatic colonies and the monitoring of neighboring apiaries to avoid pathogen spread [ 14 , 20 , 270 ]. However, strategies to treat and control the diseases vary across the world.…”
