Histopathological study of Schistosoma mansoni infection in the murine model using the PC (Pará) and LILA (Maranhão) strains

Abstract: Experimental models of Schistosoma mansoni infections in mammals have contributed greatly in understanding the pathology and pathogenesis of human infection. No parasitological and histopathological differences between geographical strains of S. mansoni from Puerto Rico, Brazil (Belo Horizonte), Saint Lucia and Tanzania (Mwanza) were noted by Powers and Cheever (1972) in a study in mice and Rhesus monkeys using different inocula, confirming the previous results.…”
