Pesantren (Islamic boarding school), a place for religious learning, has been tarnished because it is considered as a breeding ground for extremism and radicalism. This paper aims to examine the view that pesantren is not an institution for radicalism to be seedbed. However, it is an institution that is open, inclusive, and can accommodate modernity. In line with that idea, three questions could be formulated. First, how is the learning curriculum in pesantren? Second, how is the implementation of learning in pesantren? Third, how is the portrayal of inclusive graduates as the learning impact in pesantren? This study uses qualitative research with curriculum/materials and learning methods in pesantren as the object of the study. The data were collected from sources such as kyai (preacher), ustadz, santri (Islamic boarding school students), graduates, administrators of pesantren who were selected by purposive sampling, with documentation study methods, observations, and interviews. The analysis uses a descriptive method to portray the entire curriculum and learning conditions conducted in pesantren. Then they were analyzed interpretively to see the relationship between the formation of santri's inclusive attitudes. This study shows that the curriculum and learning methods have a significant role in shaping the students' attitudes. A sequential-comprehensive curriculum structure and discursive learning methods will form an inclusive (open and tolerant) student personality. Therefore, other pesantren(s) need to transform towards a discursive curriculum and learning to lead to inclusive students. Higher-Order Thinking Skills in Primary School: Teachers’ Perceptions of Islamic Education

One curriculum policy in countries, including Indonesia, is to provide students with higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) to meet the challenges of the 21st century, and success in doing so is closely related to the competence of teachers in integrating HOTS in the learning process. This study investigated HOTS implementation in Islamic Education (PAI) in primary schools in Indonesia. This study employed a case study design involving 58 PAI teachers in primary schools from several West Java, Indonesia regencies. The data were collected by distributing questionnaires with short answers followed by semi-structured interviews of 10 participants. Inductive and thematic data analysis was carried out to identify, evaluate, and create themes expressed by participants with the assistance of NVivo 12. Triangulation and expert review methods were used for instrument and data validation. This study explored five findings: teacher understanding, teaching resource support, instructional strategies, and student knowledge levels. This research contributes to improving the quality of PAI learning in HOTS-oriented primary schools, and policymakers can use its findings in determining the direction of the HOTS-based PAI curriculum. Policymakers should stress the importance of increasing teacher competence in mastering the HOTS concept comprehensively in planning, implementation, and evaluation. Support from various parties in optimizing HOTS-oriented PAI learning is a necessity for teachers.

Pesantren as an Islamic educational institution that has a dormitory system and has a role in instilling the character of students, the object of this research is at the Bin Baz Islamic Center Islamic Boarding School. The object of this research is at the Bin Baz Islamic Center Islamic Boarding School. So the researcher is interested in doing in-depth research regarding Islamic Boarding School Cultural Relations and Santri Character Strengthening: Studies at ICBB Yogyakarta Islamic Boarding Schools. This research is a qualitative research by collecting interview data, observation and documentation. The results of this study are that cleanliness and tidiness of the dormitories in Islamic boarding schools can be achieved by understanding and carrying out several steps that must be carried out 1) understanding the function of each room, 2) identifying the needs of each room 3) designing and setting up the desired space 4) labeling and visualization management. The characters that are grown in the hostel are independent, responsible for their goods, trustworthy when given assignments, cooperate, leader, respect the opinions of others, honest, dare to think, care (towards other people/environment), disciplined, orderly, patient, agile, sensitive towards other people/environment, diligent. Cleanliness and tidiness activities and programs, namely: room pickets, daily community service in public spaces (yards, terraces, halls, mosques, etc.), mass community service, weekly community service, waste sorting, room/scan surgery, cupboard surgery, lost and found , free clothesline, barracks/auction of found items, kitchen picket, waste bank, know the environment, waste management, gardening, befoster, training on dormitory management, cleanliness competition, 5r (concise, neat, clean, caring, and diligent). The system used in the implementation of cleanliness and tidiness is a rule that is made together and implemented and monitored and evaluated by the person in charge who has been appointed by the pesantren. Habits/good habits of santri related to cleanliness, tidiness which are carried out every day and continuously will become the character of the santri in the future which will become good characters that can be implemented in any field in the future both in the world of work, when in organizations, when already married , and so forth.
