High speed, high resolution ultrasonic linear motor using V-shape two bolt-clamped Langevin-type transducers

Abstract: An ultrasonic motor using two bolt-clamped Langevin-type transducers was described. A rigorous optimization of the motor's structure was conducted and its results are reported in regard to various motor parameters. Based on FEM analysis and experimental results it was established that symmetric and anti-symmetric resonance frequencies could be matched by adjusting the mass of the tip of the motor's head block. The driving voltage of the motor was reduced by using stacked multilayered piezo-elements. The veloci… Show more

“…For example, the inertia motor stepping mode (cp. Section 3.3) is used as an alternative operating mode in several motors with a different preferred mode of operation ( [108] (p. 10); [136]; [137] (p. 24)). Additionally, inertia motors with quickly changing normal force can operate like standing wave motors (cp.…”

“…Piezoelectric actuators of compound vibration mode have higher performance than single vibration mode. At present, piezoelectric actuators have been studied by researchers, and they have been applied into many fields of spaceflight, automation and so on [6] [7] [8] [9]. We study the compound vibration mode piezoelectric motor working in deep-sea environment.…”

“…Longitudinal composite transducers named as Langevin transducers are widely used for high power ultrasonic devices. Langevin transducers utilize the d33 vibration mode of piezoceramics and make piezoceramic parts vibrate under compression stress due to the stress applied by the bolt; therefore mechanical quality factor is increased and the high power conversion efficiency is achieved [6,7]. Different configurations of the boosters and amplification horns are used to increase the amplitudes of longitudinal vibration of the Langevin transducer [7,8].…”
