High performance PA6/CNTs nanohybrid fibers prepared in the melt

Abstract: a b s t r a c tCommercial and home-made carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were plasma treated under oxygen atmosphere and then added to polyamide 6 (PA6) in order to prepare fibres by melt spinning. For comparison, pristine nanofillers were used too. The effect of functionalization and of filler characteristics on the morphological, rheological, mechanical and electrical properties of the fibres was studied by TEM and SEM, rheological measurements, tensile and electrical conductivity tests. The results demonstrated that… Show more

“…The very promising FR effect of MeCy encouraged us to improve the mechanical properties of PA6/MeCy composite filament yarns with the simultaneous incorporation of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and carbon black (CB) with MeCy and, therefore, to increase the suitability of composite yarns for technical applications. Namely, CNTs represent a new generation of materials with unique chemical structures and high aspect ratios; they can provide excellent mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties to polymeric material already at low CNT concentrations . CB is a traditional material that has been used for decades for the improvement of the thermal, mechanical, and electrical properties of polymer composites because of its low cost and abundant supply .…”

“…Polyamide‐6 (PA6) has been classified as a major engineering thermoplastic material with excellent properties such as solvent resistance, easy processability, and good mechanical characteristics. However, these properties are related to the aggregation structure of nylon 6 molecule . PA6 is a semicrystalline polymer, which has two stable crystal forms (α and γ).…”
