High-Performance and Reproducible Polyaniline Nanowire/Tubes for Removal of Cr(VI) in Aqueous Solution

Abstract: In this Article, bulk-quantity one-dimensional polyaniline (1D PANI) nanowire/tubes with rough surface were prepared by a simple chemical oxidation method. This kind of PANI nanostructure can not only remove Cr(VI) rapidly and effectively in one step from aqueous solution by reducing Cr(VI) to Cr(III) as well as adsorbing the reduced Cr(III) simultaneously, but also be easily regenerated for reuse. During the removal of Cr(VI) process, the as-synthesized PANI was oxidized from emeraldine salt to pernigraniline… Show more

“…Many groups have reported the removal of toxic Cr(VI) by PANI and PANI-based composite materials [36][37][38][39]. According to these reports, the removal of Cr(VI) is due to the reduction of Cr(VI) to Cr(III) by PANI.…”

“…7 PANI in powder form is a good candidate for highly efficient Cr (VI) removal due to high adsorption capacity, low cost, and easily bulk production. [8][9][10] PANI is macroporous in nature and has small surface area and has been used for adsorption of Cr (VI The most recent discovered synthetic allotrope of carbon, two dimensional graphene and its derivatives have been used in water treatment containing organic, inorganic, and biological pollutants. [16][17][18] Graphene-based magnetic adsorbents have been widely accepted for treatment of contaminated water due to low operation cost and do not need membrane and electrical/solar energy.…”

“…Among them, polyaniline is of great interest due to its low cost, simple synthesis process, excellent electrochemical activity and biocompatibility (Lai et al, 2011;Li et al, 2011;Yuan et al, 2013). The morphology and chemical properties of polyaniline can be easily tuned by varying the 4 polymerization parameters (Chiou et al, 2007;Guo et al, 2011). In particularly, the electrochemical activity, nanostructure, and biocompatibility of PANI are largely varied when using different acids as the dopants Rajasekharan et al, 2013).…”
