High-Order Sliding-Mode Control of Variable-Speed Wind Turbines

Abstract: International audienceThis paper deals with the power generation control in variable-speed wind turbines. These systems have two operation regions which depend on wind turbine tip speed ratio. A high-order sliding-mode control strategy is then proposed to ensure stability in both operation regions and to impose the ideal feedback control solution in spite of model uncertainties. This control strategy presents attractive features such as robustness to parametric uncertainties of the turbine. The proposed slidin… Show more

“…The exception is the super twisting algorithm, which only needs information about the sliding surface S. Therefore, the proposed control approach has been designed using this algorithm. The proposed second-order sliding mode controller contains two parts: In order to ensure the convergence of the sliding manifolds to zero in finite time, the gains can be chosen as follows [14].…”

“…Recently high-order sliding-mode controllers have also been applied to variable-speed wind turbines (Beltran, Ahmed-Ali, and Hachemi Benbouzid 2009; Morfin, Loukianov, Canedo, and Castellanos 2010). In Beltran et al (2009), authors applied a second-order sliding-mode controller for the power generation control in variable-speed wind turbines. The proposed sliding-mode methodology was effective in terms of power regulation despite the parametric uncertainties in the turbine and the generator.…”
