Ein Unterschied im elektrochemischen Potential löst eine oberflächeninitiiterte radikalische Atomtransferpolymerisation in eingeschlossenen Mikrolitervolumina auf einem Metallsubstrat aus. CuI‐Aktivatoren werden kontinuierlich erzeugt und diffundieren an das mit einem Initiator modifizierte Substrat (siehe Schema), während CuII‐Desaktivatoren die Polymerisation am Laufen halten. Mit dieser Methode wurden Polymerbürstengradienten und komplexe Strukturen erhalten.
